Gayle D. Beebe (Ph.D., Claremont Graduate University) is president of Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. He is a general editor of The Renovaré Spiritual Formation Bible.
Following the teaching of St. Augustine that all our activities express an innate longing for God, Richard Foster and Gayle Beebe seek a classical model of spiritual formation. They introduce this model as the seven paths of devotion, laying the groundwork for how we can bring right order to our spiritual lives. Foster and Beebe then illustrate the power and relevance of these spiritual paths through the lives of great men and women of Christian history. Lastly, they bring the lessons of history into the domain of practice through short meditations at the close of each chapter.
The message of this book is that there are clear and ready paths to lasting intimacy with God. Our longing for God can be fulfilled.
Listeners will meditate on the lives of Thomas Merton, St. Bonaventure, Bernard of Clairvaux, Blaise Pascal, John Wesley, Martin Luther, Julian of Norwich, Teresa of Ávila, John of the Cross and many more.
Read by Charles Parker.
