For most, it's the safest place on earth. For Gracie, it's the last place she wants to be...and the one place she must return.
With nothing but five dollars and the wedding dress she's wearing, Gracie Lister flees with her daughter by train to West Texas, to the town she ran away from so long ago. There they find refuge in the home of Michael Wayne--devoted single father, seasoned soldier--who gives Gracie a job caring for his two children and the hiding place she needs from her former fiancé.
Michael and Gracie aren't looking for love, but it finds them right away. And then trouble comes to call in the form of Gracie's ex-fiancé who is now on the FBI's most-wanted list. Together, Michael and Gracie must find the strength they need to protect their newly forged family.

The different aspects of Gracie's rescue were not developed well and in this reviewer's mind, happened much too quickly to be believable. As the story continues to unfold, her ex-fiance's search for her is brought to a conclusion much too quickly. The fact that all is tied to her rescuer and his brother's murder were brought together, but seemed to be really haphazard. I actually enjoyed the book and it was a very quick read. I've not read any of the other books in the series and don't know that I will.
ElizabethdFranceGender: female3 Stars Out Of 5A pleasant little storyNovember 1, 2010ElizabethdFranceGender: femaleThis book is part of a trilogy, but is quite readable on its own.
It is 'Christian fiction', and that is where I began to be disappointed.
The story of Gracie's rescue, her involvement with the man who helped her,
the search by her evil ex fiance, is a little too facile. I found that there were some 'loose ends'. Gracie's synesthesia is mentioned several times, but when her daughter shows signs of having this also it is not developed.
God is mentioned in a few places, but I never had the feeling that the whole story rested on
a Christian base. I could not say that my faith was challenged by this book.
I enjoyed the descriptions of the Texas countryside, somewhere the author obviously knows well.
I would read her other books, just for comparison, but for me, I'd prefer something a little deeper..

Doris WrightMorganfield, KYAge: 55-65Gender: female2 Stars Out Of 5August 6, 2010Doris WrightMorganfield, KYAge: 55-65Gender: femaleI usually like Colleen Coble's books. But, this one she just kept repeating the same thing over and over again for about 10 chapters. She just kept saying it a different way. I got bored with the book really fast. I wanted to finish it to see what happens and I did. It was just not a good book from such a great author.
