ChristianBookPreviews.com

Multnomah Publishers has reformatted and combined two previous Mahaney classics, The Cross Centered Life and Christ Our Mediator, along with new material into one volume now entitled Living the Cross-Centered Life.
Mahaney states in the Introduction, “If there’s anything in life we should be passionate about, it’s the gospel. And I don’t mean passionate only about sharing it with others; I mean passionate in thinking about the gospel, reflecting upon it, rejoicing in it, allowing it to color the way we look at the world and all of life.” This is the heartbeat and platform from which Mahaney springs off of in the chapters to come.
What I have come to admire in Mahaney’s writings, a deep theological treatment coupled with a whimsical style and very practical applications, permeates this volume. From a challenge to “talk to ourselves” (as in reminding ourselves of truth) instead of “listening to ourselves” (reacting to our feelings), to practical steps for making a “Cross-Centered Day,” Mahaney takes what could be mere academia and fleshes it out to the reality of living a life in the shadow of the cross. Mahaney brings a very fresh and renewed treatment to a subject matter that is tantamount for the Christian. Pastors and general readers alike will benefit from this volume.
Living the Cross-Centered Life is a must for every believer – especially for the very practical treatment of a subject matter that should never become blasé to those who claim to take up there cross and follow Jesus. The message of this book is best summed up in this quote, “We never move on from the cross, only into a more profound understanding of the cross.” Are you ready to move into a more profound understanding of the cross? Get this book today and let Mahaney draw you into a renewed prioritizing of what the Apostle Paul calls the message of “first importance” – the Gospel (I Corinthains 15:1, 3). – Todd Burgett, Christian Book Previews.com

Editorial Reviews

Praise for C.J. Mahaney

"Every Timothy needs a Paul. C. J. is mine…and this book contains his life-message. It is my handbook for pursuing a cross centered life. Read it yourself, and let God realign your life."
-JOSHUA HARRIS, Pastor and bestsellign author

"C. J. Mahaney is the most spiritually infectious Christian I know! His passionate pursuit of Christ is so enviable to me because it flows out of both his own daily contemplation of the Savior as well as his intimate knowledge of the Word of God. Would to God that all true believers be infected with a huge dose of the same kind of enthusiasm for living the cross centered life. If you read and seek to apply what C. J. skillfully writes in this wonderful book, you just might find yourself contracting the same glorious disease he has, with the joyful hope of spreading it all around!"
-LANCE QUINN, Pastor-teacher at The Bible Church of Little Rock, Little Rock, Arkansas

"You’re holding the book you want to read to begin living the Christian life. You’re also holding the book you want to read to help you continue living the Christian life. There’s no other place to begin living the Christian life than at the cross. There’s no other place to keep living the Christian life than at the cross. C. J. Mahaney’s Living the Cross Centered Life will help you do that."
-MARK DEVER, Senior pastor at Capitol Hill Baptist Church, Washington, D.C. and author of Nine Marks of a Healthy Church

"My friend C. J. Mahaney gives us a fresh look at our Lord and His cross. He lives the cross centered life, and is  therefore qualified to talk about it. C. J. has a passion for Jesus and His people, and I was drawn closer to Jesus through this book. What higher complement could I offer?"
-RANDY ALCORN, Bestselling author of The Grace and Truth Paradox and The Tresure Principle

"C. J. Mahaney is one of our generation’s most genuine and heartfelt proclaimers of the cross of Jesus Christ. In this unexaggerated book, readers will encounter the winsome zeal of a man who has found in Christ the greatest of treasures and a joy that must be shared."
-DONALDS WHITNEY, Author of Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life and How Can I Be Sure I'm a Christian?

"The great nineteenth century Scottish pastor, Horatius Bonar once wrote, ’If we would be holy, we must get to the cross and dwell there.’ C. J. Mahaney takes us to the cross in such a way that we can indeed dwell there. This is a book to be read and reread many times. Its message will never grow old or out of date."
-JERRY BRIDGES, Author of The Pursuit of Holiness

"With tenderness and power, C. J. illustrates the critical difference between snacking on the benefits of the cross, versus surveying the wonders of the cross. It’s the difference between living as consumers, versus loving as the consumed…the difference between having a theology of grace, versus running boldly to the throne of grace. This
is a must and magisterial read!"
-SCOTTY SMITH, Senior pastor at Christ Community Church in Franklin, Tennessee

I've read this book 3 times in the last few months. I've given some away as gifts. I plan to re-read this at least yearly - it is so focused on the core of our faith (Jesus and His work on the cross) and wakes us up to areas where we are drifting. This is such a blessing.

This book takes a "story" we can get overly familiar with, and slows us down. The cross is life changing, and to start each day rooted back at the gospel & the foot of the Cross? Victorious living!

I am more grateful, more awe-inspired, more aware of the saving that I needed -- and truly ready to give Him my all. I could only read a chapter here & there throughout the day, as the Truth God unveiled thru this book, required careful deliberation & meditation.

Love the fact that you can preview books before buying them. REALLY love the fact that you can do it from the comfort of your bedroom with a Mocha Latte by your side!

The principles set forth in this book, if lived out, would radically transform a life!

Thanks CBD for providing the e-book format.
