Ladies, a little perspective can change everything—and owning your own perspective (with a sense of humor) is what The Well-Lived Laugh is all about. Brand-new from Christian humor writer Rachel St. John-Gilbert (author of Wake Up Laughing and Laugh Yourself to Sleep), The Well-Lived Laugh: Designing a Life that Keeps You Smiling offers an offbeat look at life’s crazy-making pressures—body image, relationships, social networking, the food police—and encouragement to develop your own unique perspective to help eliminate those pressures. Through her thought-provoking, quirky, and funny observations, St. John-Gilbert will help you embrace the beauty in life that comes through each experience you encounter, whether planned or not.
Rachel St. John-Gilbert is an offbeat observer who uses her wit to weave together comic takes on the ordinary. She lives in Texas. Rachel's family includes husband, Scott, and three kids who love to perform. Trevor is a music theater major at the University of Michigan. Little sisters Tori and Whitney perform nightly to a sold-out crowd of two.

This book contains helpful advice and the author shares much of her own experiences. This would be helpful especially for younger women learning to juggle parenting, a career, and ministry.
Too Real HousewifeSydney,AustraliaAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5How to let go of some of lifes' pressuresAugust 11, 2012Too Real HousewifeSydney,AustraliaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Rachel St John-Gilbert realised Oprah's job was already taken and " being a deep thinker and encourager by nature, I dabbled in the writing world to see if God might use these gifts in that field".
Well Lived Laugh (Designing A Life That Keeps You Smiling) Â is one of her books written about " some of the pressures that weighs on womens' minds" and encourages the reader to " decide for themselves how to view them".
At the end of each chapter is a questionaire section designed to help you decide how seriously you feel pressured by that chapters topic. The questions are designed to determine whether you need to ‘ease up' the pressure you may be putting on yourself.
Chapters deal with common pressures women face, such as weight ,youthfulness, doing it all and making something of yourself. St John-Gilbert is know for her quirky, humourous style and the anecdotes in this book help illustrate each topic in a very low-pressure and relatable way. Yet, this is not a book about ‘giving up' or avoiding pressure. St John-Gilbert acknowledges that " not all pressures are bad-some are a catalyst to positive change."Â
The main message is knowing your priorities. When we determine our priorities, rather than allowing outside pressures to govern us, we can live by our beliefs and actions with confidence and enthusiasm rather than burning out trying to live by standards that are imposed by society or our need to be perfect or liked.
IreneUnited States4 Stars Out Of 5A fun readAugust 8, 2012IreneUnited StatesQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4A book to help you enjoy your life more? What a great idea! Author Rachel St. John-Gilbert does a good job of presenting her ideas on how to achieve such a life.
The author's sense of humor is the main draw to this book. You will find yourself laughing along when she tells of some of her personal experiences. Her advice following her stories is presented well. She gives Biblical reference along with her simple advice on subject's women deal with every day. From losing weight to the pressures of being a Mother, each topic discussed will help with the different situations women encounter every day.
I gave this book 4/5 stars. I thought the advice was practical as well is easy to understand. I did however think there was a little too much humor. I know that is odd to say that but sometimes less is better! The author did well getting her messages across. This would be a good book for any woman to read.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
GingerGender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Tune into Your Own Unique VoiceJuly 22, 2012GingerGender: femaleValue: 4Meets Expectations: 4This book is for women who've lived long enough to realize that life's not for sissies!
There are so many voices out there pressuring us to conform to a myriad of ideas, values, and priorities that it can be hard to hear our own unique voice. This book is a call to do just that.
The 12 essays are "offbeat, contemplative riffing for the unconventional woman."
