America's Original Pioneer Girl
Meet Laura Ingalls, the little girl who would grow up to write the Little House books.
Pa Ingalls heads west to the unsettled wilderness of the Dakota Territory. When Ma, Mary, Laura, Carrie, and baby Grace join him, they become the first settlers in the town of DeSmet. And Pa begins work on the first building in what will soon be a brand-new town on the shores of Silver Lake. By the Shores of Silver Lake is the fifth book in the Laura Years series.
Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in 1867 in the log cabin described in Little House in the Big Woods. She and her family traveled by covered wagon across the Midwest. Later, Laura and her husband, Almanzo Wilder, made their own covered-wagon trip with their daughter, Rose, to Mansfield, Missouri. There, believing in the importance of knowing where you began in order to appreciate how far you've come, Laura wrote about her childhood growing up on the American frontier. For millions of readers Laura lives on forever as the little pioneer girl in the beloved Little House books.
Cherry Jones won the Tony® Award for best actress for both The Heiress and Doubt, and received two Tony® nominations for her work in A Moon for the Misbegotten and Our Country's Good; she can be seen in the films The Perfect Storm, Erin Brockovich, The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, and Cold Mountain.
Joe Pizzuto-Pomaco5 Stars Out Of 5February 24, 2009Joe Pizzuto-PomacoMy children love the audio version of the Little House series. We have five audiobooks in the series. Cherry Jones does more than just read the story, she performs it. The varied use of her voice delivers a dramatic and often humorous interpretation of the text. Sadly, however, her choice of lifestyle does not match the wholesome tone of the Little House series. Ms. Jones is a practicing lesbian who has been active in espousing the gay agenda. Too bad.
