Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in 1867 in the log cabin described in Little House in the Big Woods. She and her family traveled by covered wagon across the Midwest. Later, Laura and her husband, Almanzo Wilder, made their own covered-wagon trip with their daughter, Rose, to Mansfield, Missouri. There, believing in the importance of knowing where you began in order to appreciate how far you've come, Laura wrote about her childhood growing up on the American frontier. For millions of readers Laura lives on forever as the little pioneer girl in the beloved Little House books.Doris Ettlinger, a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, has illustrated many books for children. She lives in Warren County, New Jersey.

We have been reading the little house series at home and I thought they would enjoy seeing the illustrations in these books. The books have been a huge hit! The illustrations are lovely to look at and help the little people see what life was like "back then".
We also purchased the paper doll set, which is adorable-my girls love playing with these as well.

Full-page illustrations (inspired by the original artwork by Garth Williams) bring these treasured stories to life in vivid color. Each book selects a story from one of the first 3 books in the Little House series. The language is slightly simpler, making it an excellent option for introducing the Little House books to early readers. I just bought all the books in this series for my children and we love them!
Lauren McMann5 Stars Out Of 5October 2, 2009Lauren McMannIt is like a trip back in time. It's like I am there in the little house listening to Pa's fiddle or smelling corncakes grilling on an open fire as Ma cooks breakfast for all of us on Saturday morning before we get up to do our chores!
Rhonda Owens5 Stars Out Of 5December 12, 2008Rhonda OwensI am a grandmother and have loved these books since I was a small child. The First Little House books are great for my grandchildren; preschoolers, I can read to them and elementary students, they enjoy reading the books themselves. All like the pictures.
