Only a gifted writer like Melody Carlson could present a self-centered character in such a way that the reader cant wait to turn the page and learn more about her. Claudettes poignant, yet amusing journey from worldly has-been diva to genuine, honest woman grabs the reader by the heartstrings and doesnt let go, even after the end. Highly recommended! Jill Elizabeth Nelson, author of the To Catch a Thief series
any story by Carlson is worth encountering. Booklist
Melody Carlsons style is mature and bitingly funny, and her gift for connecting our heart to the characters plight also connects us to the complicated human condition and our need for one another. Patricia Hickman, author of Painted Dresses
Melody Carlson never fails to drag us out of our Christian easychairs and right into the coals of the confusing culture in which we all find ourselves. She never fails to reveal that place of compassion within each of us. Excellent. Lisa Samson, author of The Church Ladies and Tiger Lillie
With great confidence, I can say that Melody Carlsons story will enlighten, encourage, and empower you. Gregory L. Jantz, Ph.D., Founder and Executive Director of The Center for Counseling & Health Resources, Inc.
Melody Carlson and Limelight
"A compelling tale of one woman's journey from the excitement of the limelight to contentment in the twilight. When eighty-two-year-old Claudette is forced to leave her pampered Hollywood life and return to the backward town she escaped decades ago, she isn't sure she wants to continue living especially if it means facing her estranged sister and the secret she has avoided for years. Limelight is a beautiful coming-of-age story at the other end of the spectrum."
Virginia Smith, author of Third Time's a Charm and the Sister-to-Sister Series

DoryAB, CanadaAge: 45-54Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5DisappointingJune 3, 2013DoryAB, CanadaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleI must say I was disappointed in this book. I usually enjoy Melody's books, this one I was not able to finish. It is a very slow moving story, just alot of dialogue. I also objected to the inclusion of Claudette's friend who is gay. It was treated as though it was nothing to be concerned about. I believe that is not a lifestyle that is pleasing to God. There is little to no spiritual content at all.

The main character was intriguing and everything that she went through was heart warming at the same time. I would definitely read this author again. Loved it!
Patty Le Blanc3 Stars Out Of 5November 28, 2009Patty Le BlancClaudette was once living the high life in Hollywood with her famous husband. Now she is a widow and circumstances have completely changed in her life. She finds herself not knowing how to cope with these changes. What she does find along the way are a few lessons in life she would never have dreamed of learning. I found the beginning of the book a little slow, but I kept on reading. This is not the usual genre that I read, but it was enjoyable enough. There are many hilarious parts that are worth the read, but I cant say its my favorite. Claudette is quite the character, and it makes you wonder if there are really people out there who are as difficult in the same manner as she is.
MikeAlexandria, INAge: 45-54Gender: Male4 Stars Out Of 5November 18, 2009MikeAlexandria, INAge: 45-54Gender: MaleIn this book, we learn about Claudette Fior, who used to turn heads and break hearts. She relished the glamorous Hollywood lifestyle because she had what it takes: money, youth, fame, and above all, beauty. But age has withered that beauty, and a crooked accountant has taken her wealth, leaving the proud widow penniless and alone.Armed with stubbornness and sarcasm, Claudette returns to her shabby little hometown and her estranged sister. Slowly, she makes friends. She begins to see her old life in a new light. For the first time, Claudette Fior questions her own values and finds herself wondering if its too late to change.A wonderful book talking about values and change. It's one most people can identify with.
Angela5 Stars Out Of 5November 9, 2009AngelaI have to preface this review by saying I absolutely love Melody Carlson's books. I've been an avid fan of hers for a long time, so I jumped at the chance to review this book. Limelight was no disappointment. Melody Carlson has a way with weaving a story together that pulls you in and never lets you go until you have read the last letter, on the last page. With a character like Claudette Fiore, an aging actress used to having meals at Spago, staying at the Beverly Hills Hilton, and living on an unlimited budget of designer clothing and shoes, trips to the spa and vacations spent on sandy white beachs.... life as she knows it has come to a sudden halt. Finding her self homeless and broke, Claudette is forced to return to the tiny town she grew up in, the sister she hasn't spoken to in years, and a life she thought she had left far behind
