Publisher's Description

When two hearts connect on a beach in Florida, is it a brief romance . . . or the start of a lasting love?

After family secrets come to light, causing an uproar, Roman Keim is taking a much-needed vacation to Pinecraft, the Amish snowbird community in Florida. The warm weather is a welcome break from the bleak Ohio winter, as is a week off from all his family's drama. But Roman's own drama begins when he meets his next-door neighbors: Amanda Yoder, a beautiful young widow, and her adorable daughter, Regina.

In the two years since her husband died, Amanda has never looked at another man. She certainly doesn't intend to get married again. But she can't deny that there's something special between her and Roman. As his week in Pinecraft comes to a close, Amanda knows that, in spite of her attempt to remain distant, she's given Roman a piece of her heart. And her daughter seems to have fallen in love, too.

Is there hope for a second chance at love for Amanda? Or will duty call Roman home first, far from the two women who have captured his heart?

Shelley Shepard Gray 's Ray of Light is fantastic. This is the second story in the Days of

Redemption series and I love it. For those of you who didn't read Daybreak (the first in

the series) you won't be lost... I promise. Shelley does a great job of filling us in as

    the story unfolds.

Ray of Light features Roman Keim, who is vacationing in the Amish and Mennonite

community of Pinecraft, FL, and meets a charming widow, Amanda and

    her precious little girl, Regina.

After a precarious first meeting, Amanda and Roman form a tentative bond so much so

that neither of them want to see their vacations end.

Can Amanda move past her grief and the past that's holding her back, can Roman

balance the needs of his family (who is in the middle of their own strife)

    and his community?

Besides a great story of two souls trying to work beyond the past, we're also treated to

Amanda's former in-laws and Roman's complicated family, who are like each of us,

    flawed creatures.

I couldn't put this down and I promise you won't be able to either.

I loved this book. This is the middle book in a series. I am so glad I have the next book in the series so can continue with this moving story. One of the theme's for this book is overcoming grief.

In book 2 of The Days of Redemption series by Shelley Shepard Gray, we switch to Pinecraft, an Amish/Mennonite community in Sarasota, FL, so this story's location is different from the usual Amish locations in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana, which was quite refreshing. Picking up where Daybreak left off, Ray of Light begins to reveal more Keim family secrets and definitely more romance. When Roman Keim heads to Pinecraft to get away from all the troubles at home, he meets Amanda Yoder in the next condominium. Amanda is a widow with a precocious little daughter, Regina, who just steals your heart and Roman's too. Regina really added a touch of reality to the story, especially when they all return to visit Roman's farm in Ohio to meet his family. Amanda and Regina endear themselves with Roman's family, especially his grandparents. So, can Roman and Amanda make this long-distance relationship work? Amanda is also still struggling with the loss of her husband but she also promised him that she would move on in her life so we really want it to work out for them. And while Amanda's interactions with Roman meet with her mother-in-law's disapproval, as she deals with the loss of her son, Amanda shows again what a strong person she is when she defends herself.

I also enjoyed the continuing story of Viola & Edward, although I must say, I did become annoyed with Edward for his reaction to her ‘incident' and thought he totally overreacted and was quite harsh with her. So, I can't wait to read the next book in this series to see how the family secrets are handled and also what happens to Elsie, who we have grown to love I thought all of the female characters in this book are strong, determined women and I can't wait to continue with this saga. Another riveting book by Shelley Shepard Gray. I highly recommend this series if you are a fan of riveting Amish fiction

This is the second book in the "Days of Redemption" series. If you read the first book, "Daybreak", you know that the story of the Keim family is unraveling with the ending of secrets and the beginning of honesty and transparency for the whole family. Roman Keim is the steady, even-keeled member of the family and even he feels like escaping for a while. His trip to Pinecraft, Florida brings literal and figurative light to his life. It's a sweet story of first love, renewed love, and a bit of revelation of how the love and laughter of a child can bring out the best in people. The story does, indeed, bring a "ray of light" to the Keims, as their continuing story unfolds

I found Ray of Light to be a delightful and heartwarming read and look into a different group of people. Still Amish, but of the New Order Amish instead of the more written about Old Order Amish group. Not only does this group allow telephones in the house, they also do more missionary work in other countries. Although this is the second book in the series, for the most part it is a stand alone novel. Reading Daybreak (first book in the series) might have given more insight into the romance of Viola and Ed but since they are secondary characters in this story of Roman and Amanda, it was not a necessity to know. I loved how Shelley brought Amanda from widowhood and single mother of a precocious four year old daughter Regina to seeing a ray of light on the horizon beyond. Shelley as well as Regina and Roman grew in their maturity in Christ through the book, which was moving.

As always, Shelley does a great job of bringing her readers into the lives of her characters, and with her fantastic ability with words has the world around them come to life.

I received this book free from Litfuse Publicity group for the purpose of writing an honest review. A positive critique was not required. The opinions stated are my own.
