My son responds very well to LifePac. He loves the hands on experiments. It is helpful to read ahead to find out what items you will need for the experiments.

Do take a look at the samples; they're indicative of the product you'll receive. Very colourful and easy-to-follow magazine-sized workbooks. The teacher guide in the younger grades is largely un-necessary as is the tenth booklet as despite its title, it's almost entirely a review of previous booklets. I suppose if one were in an upper-grade course and needed to cram for a final it would be more appropriate, but for third grade? Nah.

Buy the nine booklets and spend the time you would have spent on the tenth going outside and learning about what-ever may be local to you. In our case, there are frogs by the creek a few miles over. We'll take a few visits and take a look at how the environment changes. Or we'll watch interesting youtube science videos. Just an idea. :)

This is very teacher-led. Access to a library and internet on a regular basis will provide a visual to the many concepts and subjects that are taught. It helps to read ahead to prepare for the upcoming subjects so you can have videos and books to expand on what is being covered. With preparation your child will learn a great deal.

I was searching for a curriculum similar to A.C.E. but with more experiment options. Ive tried several different Science courses over the years and feel this has been the best fit for my kids to be able to do independently and still enjoy.
