Decided to break down and purchase some curriculum. Decided on Lifepac as we are in the car often and it seems portable. I also liked the price of the whole LifePac kits. We have been using for a few months and I like it 80% of the time. My children and I like the way they incorporate the Bible into the work and the student book for examples. We like the variety of ways they try to reinforce the information, picture puzzles, crossword puzzles etc,
The problems 1) I agree with T parks about the spelling words. 2) I wish they would give you more examples. The teacher guide does not expand the text. So if you are confused after reading the student book you have to figure it out yourself. 3) Several sections in the grade 4 and grade 7 I wish they would put that on a website where you can log in and hear it. 4) Also would be great to have additional worksheets on a website you could log into if you want additional practice on a subject. I would recommend with caveats.

It is laid out well, and covers a good amount of material. The only thing I dislike about these books is the fact that there is not a lot between when they are given the spelling word list, and when the spelling test is. I have taken to giving the entire list of words at the beginning of the unit in order for them to have time to learn them. I am pleased that the word list seems to be more on track for 4th grade, as the 2nd and 3rd grade lists seemed way to simple for that level. These sets are very affordable as well, for those wanting to homeschool on a budget.
T Parks3 Stars Out Of 5October 22, 2008T ParksI was hesitant to purchase Lifepac since it was our first exposure to the series and I remain on the fence concerning Lifepac. I would recommend purchasing at least one grade level above what your child can do as some of the content is still super easy. My child is in 3rd grade and the 4th grade language arts is fairly easy. The spelling words do not present a challenge whatsoever. I would also suggest purchasing a different curriculum to teach cursive. Expect a lot of repetition in the layout and form. I believe there are more exciting ways to teach language arts, but for this year it 'gets it done' for us. I will most likely return to putting our own language arts curriculum together next year.
Ann Askin3 Stars Out Of 5June 6, 2008Ann AskinThis was the second time I have tried AOP LA, the first being during 1st grade, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and now with 3rd grade... now not so much impressed. It seems disjointed and jumps around somewhat. My son has some learning disabilities and it will be difficult for him to remember from one book to the next what was taught. I think I'll be looking to use LLATL instead.
