Excellent research by Alfred Edersheim on the 1st Century Life of Jesus from a Jewish perspective. I have almost all of his stuff and is some of the best study tools around. A must for serious Bible students.

Although somewhat outdated because of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Edersheim's great work remains an excellent reference to anyone who wishes to explore the cultural, social, and religious setting of First Century Jewish Palestine. His historical walk from the reign of Herod the Great, to the Passion and Resurrection of Christ is finely detailed and documentned. Also, Edersheim's familarity to rabbincal sources, such as the Mishna, is striking. One of the more interesting features of this great work is that appendix section where Mr. Edersheim list over 400 Old Testament passage which were tagged by the ancient rabbis as messianic-a must for anyone who wishes to explore the Jewish expectations of the Messiah during the days when the Carpentar
from Nazareth walked the Earth.
I bought my copy some 15 years ago, and I use to this very day. Buy it, learn-and what is more, enjoy.
