Although it took me a bit to get into the story, I really did enjoy this book! As a people pleaser myself, I learned some valuable lessons from Leah in her journey to find the true person that she was..whether people accepted that or not. This is my first read from Rene Gutteridge...I will check out more of her work.

I'm reading this book for like the third time, and it is like taking a course in creative writing. It is one big lesson in and of itself. Rene Gutteridge keeps the plot moving and interesting, and keeps you invested and involved in the life of the main character, Leah, who is likable and easy to identify with. I also liked the added element of the play Leah is writing. The parallels are ironic and unique. I am anxious to read the rest of Rene Gutteridge's books!

This was my first Rene Gutteridge book, which I bought because as a writer, I thought I would be able to identify with Leah because she's a playwright. Yet, I was able to identify with her on many other levels, too, particularly the "doormat" level (yes, I am a member of the Doormats Anonymous club). But I loved what Rene did with that, because the way she wrote the book, you don't actually realize how much of a doormat Leah is until you've been with her for awhile. I think that's what makes some of the plot elements, such as Leah's eventual relationship with Cinco, so warm and rewarding. Some of the characters' actions were a little hard to swallow, and I don't think most conflict management classes would agree with Marilyn's methods, but this is forgivable in light of the enjoyable plot and a protagonist you can really care about. Good work, Rene!
