Publisher's Description

Sixteen years ago, at 8:20 in the morning, Dennis Apple discovered his son's lifeless body on the family room couch. Eighteen-year-old Denny had died without warning from complications due to Mono.

Life After the Death of My Son shares a glimpse of the unspeakable pain, helplessness, frustration, and eventual healing that Dennis and his wife, Buelah, have experienced over the last 16 years. Using excerpts from his journal, which he began the day after Denny died, Dennis explores the dark, lonely road of grieving for a child. He discloses his anger and disappointment with God, discusses his frustrations with friends and family, and shares how he's dealt with the grief attacks, which continue to sneak up and surprise him. His painful, yet promising story offers comfort and connection to those walking similar journeys. With understanding and compassion, he offers grieving parents insight from 10 lessons he's learned-and continues to learn. His gentle words and honest understanding will guide those with grieving hearts on their difficult journey, giving them hope; and helping them discover the ways God can continue the life of the child they loved and lost.

This is a marvelous book for anyone who has lost a child or knows someone who has and wants to better understand what they are going through! I lost a son 6 weeks ago and as I read this book, I just found myself shaking my head yes, yes! through all the pages. I could not have written my feelings better myself. The death of a child is NOT like any other death. It leaves you mortally wounded but with God not without hope. Please read this book!

I got this book because of having grown up with the author's family in Indiana and desiring to know how God helped him through the loss of his son. I found the book very difficult to put down and one which I'd strongly recommend to others experiencing loss whether it be a child, a sibling, etc. Many things the author learned through his experience were things I learned over many years through the death of my father. A book like this would've been a great help had it been available for me then. The struggle with loss, questioning of one's faith, etc., are addressed. By providing insight into how God has brought him through, those who are dealing with the loss of a loved one can find hope to press on as well.

I have two friends who have lost children, and I felt at such a loss as to how to help. After reading this book, I learned that the loss of a child, while somewhat similar to other losses, has an element unknown to others. The loss of a child does not fade over time like other losses. I learned that my friends will forever feel that heartache, and I learned that the patience and care we give to someone who is grieving a fresh loss, is how we must always treat our dear friends who have lost a child. The hole in their hearts will always be there. While other losses leave a tender ache, the loss of a child forever leaves a hole. This book helped me understand a little better about what my friends are feeling.

I lost my son 8 months ago and this book was very good. Almost all of the things Dennis Apple discusses in his book, I have gone through as well. I would recommend it to any grieving parent or anyone that knows a grieving parent and wants to have some idea of what they go through.

I have read every grief book that I could find. This book was the best I have read. It is practical and real. This Author "gets it".Grieving a child is very different than grieving a parent, spouse, friend etc.. Every parent who has lost a child especially a teen or adult child should read this book.
