Product Description

Renowned Old Testament scholar R.K. Harrison begins this commentary with an introductory section in which he discusses the book's authorship, date, unity, theology, and more. A brief outline of Leviticus is given. The commentary that follows is an in-depth analysis of the book, but written in a way easily read by the lay person.

The Tyndale New Testament Commentaries have long been a trusted resource for Bible study. Written by some of the world's most distinguished evangelical scholars, these 20 volumes offer clear, reliable and relevant explanations of every book of the NT. These Tyndale volumes are designed to help readers understand what the Bible actually says and what it means. The introduction to each volume gives a concise but thorough description of the authorship, date, and historical background of the biblical book under consideration. The commentary itself examines the text section by section, drawing out its main themes. It also comments on individual verses and deals with problems of interpretations. The aim throughout is to get at the true meaning of the Bible and to make its message plain to readers today.

Publisher's Description

Levitical rules and regulations regarding blood and sacrifice, offerings and priests, cleanness and uncleanness at first appear irrelevant to twentieth century Christians. Yet large portions of the New Testament can hardly be understood at all apart from some understanding of these Old Testament concepts. What does it mean for believers to be a royal priesthood? A holy nation? For Christ to be our great high priest? Our passover lamb? R.K. Harrison illuminates these ideas within their Old Testament context, thus providing the needed background for their New Testament development. The original, unrevised text of this volume has been completely retypeset and printed in a larger, more attractive format with the new cover design for the series.

Author Bio

The late R. K. Harrison was professor of Old Testament at Wycliffe College, University of Toronto.

Harrison was a highly respected Old Testament scholar, author, and editor in latter part of the 20th century. He writes from an intelligently conservative stance. After weighing the available evidence, he opts for Mosaic authorship (with possible help from priests or others). The commentary is fairly non-technical. It is especially helpful for educated lay-persons, seminary students, ministers/pastors, and teachers. The focus is on exegesis of the text. However, Harrison displays an interest in theology and New Testament connections as well. As with most volumes in this series, the work is somewhat brief. It is also now slightly dated. However, it continues to meet the needs of its intended audience and remains an excellent value.
