Ruth Caldwell has always tried to live up to her mother's expectations of what a lady should be...often with less-than-impressive results. But when she's forced to journey west to meet the father she's never seen, Ruth hopes that this might be the place she'll finally fit in.
But her arrival brings about more mayhem than even Ruth is used to. She soon meets Josh McCain, the son of her father's business partner, but discovers some startling news: Her father passed away years ago. And though Josh urges Ruth to claim her inheritance, he grows suspicious of something more sinister at hand when her "accidents" seem to go beyond Ruth's normal bumbling ways and leave her very life in danger.
But Letter Perfect isnt all fun and games. With wry characters, wonderful humor, and some heart-stinging pathos, Hake weaves a tale which takes a deep look at a womans place in that world (as well as our contemporary one), good versus bad, and coping with the failure of loved onesall spiced with a goodly helping of danger and adventure. Based firmly on Christian morals, Bible teachings are skillfully woven into the plot.
Zane Grey, Sr., springs to mind as you read this engaging tale. But, it is definitely no copy. Cathy Marie Hakes fertile imagination presents an original story, that is fun to read and provocative. My husband loved it every bit as much as I did, probably because by laughing at this story he was actually laughing at me. Letter Perfect will be enjoyed by every capable reader with a sense of humor. And, it will lure the not-so-confident readers to improve their skills in order to cope with its wonderful, swinging storyline. Donna Eggett, Christian Book Previews.com

This is an older book that was a free download, which I am so glad I read! The characters were fun and flawed. I love how God is on peoples hearts and lips frequently, but not in an overbearing way. More like He is just a normal, flowing part of their lives, as it should be. I did not see the big twists coming, and once revealed just get deeper and deeper into a massive knot of ugly! I laughed at times, and cried at times, and genuinely enjoyed myself. There is determination, hard work, western theme set in CA when the railroad was growing, and war just around the bendbut, thankfully not in this book. Theres a general store, and neighbors helping neighbors, and sweet building romance. There is also greed and some mystery. The ending is settled, so you can read it as a stand-alone if you choose to.
A new favorite quote of mine from this book is, If theres going to be a banquet table in Paradise, I dont see why there cant be a tea table, too.
I give it 5 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to others.

MargotSouth AustraliaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5It's Got Everything!January 19, 2014MargotSouth AustraliaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book is loaded with loveable characters - I especially liked the loyal housekeeper, and the wise neighbor - intrigue, romance, a few good laughs and a challenge to a deeper Christian walk. Accident prone Ruth has been thrown out of every finishing school in the East, never quite able to put the whole "being a lady" thing together. She hopes it wont matter so much out west, and it becomes quite cute, rather than disastrous. I loved the way Josh was so faithful, praying with Ruth on numerous occasions, gently leading her to a deeper walk with God, and loving her with such sincerity and loyalty. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and recommend it to all lovers of Christian historical romance.
love2readAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A story with wits and depthJune 27, 2013love2readAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Starting a series with a book like this one puts quit some pressure on all to come!
The heroine is so funny, ernest, clumsy, likeable it just makes one feel good about oneself - not by feeling superior , but by understanding that even I can find my special place where I can be my sometimes odd myself.
I loved the book!
TinaWMesa, AZAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Adventure, Romance, Finding Where You BelongJuly 29, 2011TinaWMesa, AZAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Obedience to her mother, brings our main character right into a land that is nothing like her past. Only the hope of having a little dress shop is the beginning of her life.. only to find there are riches beyond what she thought she would find in the little town of Gooding Texas!
The characters come alive with each word and the simple tale seems to take you into the storyline. This was my second Cathy Marie Hake book and I found an unexpected adventure in this book!
The kindness of reaching out to take care of our neighbors in grace and love is a rich tale indeed. The slowly built romance between the characters brings the blossom of a smile to your face! Yes, you must read this one too!
