Product Description

Everyone hates and fears the arrogant and verbally abusive Judge Samuel Chesterfield. But who hates him enough to murder him in his own chambers? Only the four trial lawyers had access and motive. And what-if anything-does the murder have to do with the sensational wrongful-death suit brought against a prominent abortionist?

Edward Mead, a distinguished law professor, acts as special prosecutor. No one knows the secret pain he hides, because he masks his inner turmoil behind a razor-sharp wit. But sometimes even he wonders: Do I, at seventy-six years old, still have what it takes to solve the case?

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I studied Mechanical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University for three years before a tragic series of events struck that forever altered the course of my life; I witnessed my older brother beat and kill his college roommate. I intentionally misled the police, refused to testify against my brother, and was ultimately charged and convicted of complicity to Involuntary Manslaughter. However, shortly after my arrest I heard the Gospel for the first time in my life, and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. During my incarceration, I earned two Associates degrees from Lorain County Community College, graduating with a 4.0 GPA; I went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in 1997, then immediately set to work on my first novel A Trial of Innocents, later published in 2000 under the pen-name Michael Andrew. This early book garnered rave reviews and encouraged me to write the sequel A Murder of Innocents. Both books are still in print. After serving nearly 17 years, I was released from prison in 2006. Throughout the late nineties I attended graduate school through correspondence at the Reformed Theological Seminary, working toward a Master’s degree in Theology. This ultimately led to my current position on the pastoral staff at the Gospel House Church and Evangelistic Center in Walton Hills, Ohio where I work primarily as a chaplain in prison ministry. 2007 marked the beginning of a new phase in my publishing career, when I signed a three-book deal with OakTara. The first book, Lethal Ambition, was released in July 2007 to strong reviews, making consistent appearances on Amazon.com’s bestseller lists in both the Legal and Political thriller categories.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I wanted to address a side of the pro-life argument that is not often discussed; the devastating toll abortion takes on not only the women who receive them, but also on the abortion providers. Using this as the sub-plot, I wove a fast-paced legal thriller/murder mystery around it.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  A lot of people intellectually assent to the wrongness of abortion, but I want them to feel the impact enough to want to get involved. And of course, as a writer I want to entertain my readers and keep them guessing.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  Working on this project made me feel a bit more sympathetic toward those who work in the abortion industry. It is easy to demonize them, but until they are reached with the Gospel, they will never comprehend the harm they are doing.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  As a mystery writer, Agatha Christie. As a Christian novelist, Frank Peretti.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Fiction is a non-threatening way to share your Christian world-view with family and friends. It is a lot less confrontational to hand a "murder mystery" to a pro-choice co-worker, than to give them a more overt pro-life publication -- and there is a better chance they will actually read it.
