Product Description

Mia Quinn discovers that a series of seemingly unrelated murders are linked. How far up are the strings being pulled-and what happens when one of her own is at risk? The murder Mia is prosecuting seems like an open and shut case-until the accused claims he was the real victim and that the dead girl attacked him first. The tabloids dub her a "lethal beauty." Still, a conviction seems imminent. Then a key witness goes missing. Just when it looks like the killer could walk free, the dead woman's mother takes matters into her own hands.

Meanwhile, Charlie Carlson, a Seattle homicide detective, is investigating the murder of a man whose body washed up on the beach of Puget Sound, but he's got little to go on. He has no dental work, fingerprints aren't on file, and he doesn't match any missing person reports. Then a church pianist is senselessly gunned down before horrified parishioners. All three cases seem unrelated-but are they? Together, Mia and Charlie race to find the answer before another crime hits too close to home.

Publisher's Description

It should have been an open and shut murder case, but Mia Quinn finds out nothing about it is simple.

After a young Chinese prostitute is stabbed to death by her rich American client, the tabloids dub Dandan Yee "Lethal Beauty"—despite the fact that she was the one who ended up dead. Yet even with double standards and naked prejudice working against her, Seattle prosecutor Mia Quinn is determined to get justice for Dandan Yee.

But when a key witness goes missing and an unsavory juror shuts down deliberations without explanation, Mia fears the trial—and the law—are being tampered with.

A constellation of fresh killings has Mia and homicide detective Charlie Carlson searching for a common source and puts Mia’s family in the crosshairs of a Chinese crime cabal. Meanwhile, Dandan Yee’s mother has opted to take matters into her own hands . . . and the stakes get more lethal overnight.

In the midst of all this, Mia has to contend with a fifteen-year-old son who is growing up too fast for his own good, and the idea that Charlie might want to be more than just friends. Can Mia and Charlie stop the murders and still keep her family safe? Or is the very act of seeking justice enough to cost her everything—and everyone—she loves?

Editorial Reviews

'Fans of J.D. Robb's Lt. Eve Dallas or The Closer's Brenda Leigh Johnson will appreciate strong female protagonist Quinn. In addressing the tough social issues of sex trafficking and domestic slavery in sometimes graphic detail, the best-selling coauthors combine skillfully multiple story lines with realistic characters and a palpable tension that keep the pages turning. The spiritual message is subtle: evil is everywhere, but where there is faith and people willing to fight for what is right, good will prevail.' (starred review)
'In Wiehl and Henry’s page-turning third Mia Quinn mystery (after 2014’s A Deadly Business).... The book moves effortlessly from one interesting character to another.'
“New York Times bestselling author Wiehl has written a high-stakes suspense that starts with the very first page. Lethal Beauty, book three in the “Mia Quinn Mystery” series, has all of the elements of a top notch mystery: missing witnesses, jury tampering, and a parent that tries to take justice into her own hands.” – CBA Retailers + Resources
“The third installment of Wiehl’s Mia Quinn series takes the action and intrigue up another notch. The suspense is exciting throughout, with international ties and a fascinating side story about Mia’s son that is quite pertinent for today’s reader.” – Romantic Times
'Wiehl's partnership with Henry brings out her humanity without the supernatural side that emerges in her other books written with Pete Nelson.Fans of Mia Quinn (A Deadly Business, 2014, etc.) will find this a well-considered addition to the series. '

Review: The book was very interesting. I really liked to see the main characters return. The storyline was sad. It was very well written and realistic. I did find it easy to read overall. The theme of human trafficking is tragic and difficult to identify in real life. The sideline story of Gabe and steroids was understandable at the end, but not as believable for me. It seemed to deviate from Gabes character. Overall the book was worth the read and had a quick wrap up. I really liked how the finally concluded. For me it was the perfect way to wrap it up because I like a big final scene, this topic is very real for people and I was glad to see the ending being quick and final. The bad men seemed to have eyes and ears everywhere, without anything stopping them from silencing those that threatened their interests. Sometimes, evil seems to have the upper hand and this alone is scary. I liked the unravelling of this evil, which became disorganized and desperate. The main character seems disconnected at times from God, and the faith side of the story was limited. I hoped to see a growth in Mia Quinn in her faith. The previous books seemed to be drawing her closer to God, but that seemed to be sidelined in this story. That was my only disappointment with the story.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.

Lis Wiehl with April Henry in their new book, Lethal Beauty Book Three in the Mia Quinn Mystery series published by Thomas Nelson gives us another adventure with Mia Quinn.

From the inside jacket flap: It should have been an open and shut murder case, but Mia Quinn finds out nothing about it is simple.

After a young Chinese prostitute is stabbed to death by her rich American client, the tabloids dub Dandan Yee Lethal Beautydespite the fact that she was the one who ended up dead. Yet even with double standards and naked prejudice working against her, Seattle prosecutor Mia Quinn is determined to get justice for Dandan Yee.

But when a key witness goes missing and an unsavory juror shuts down deliberations without explanation, Mia fears the trialand the laware being tampered with.

A constellation of fresh killings has Mia and homicide detective Charlie Carlson searching for a common source and puts Mias family in the crosshairs of a Chinese crime cabal. Meanwhile, Dandan Yees mother has opted to take matters into her own hands . . . and the stakes get more lethal overnight.

In the midst of all this, Mia has to contend with a fifteen-year-old son who is growing up too fast for his own good, and the idea that Charlie might want to be more than just friends. Can Mia and Charlie stop the murders and still keep her family safe? Or is the very act of seeking justice enough to cost her everythingand everyoneshe loves?

The team of Wiehl and Henry is unbeatable. The quality of story that they produce is exceptional. This time around Mia is dealing with illegal immigration or human trafficking. The people are being brought here with the lure of a better life only to find themselves in prostitution. Mia now has to deal with the murders of these illegal immigrants and trouble at home. Lethal Beauty is an excellent murder mystery filled with marvelous characters, great plot twists, suspense and thrills. This is an exciting book, extremely well paced and suspenseful. I am enjoying this series and I hope there will be a next book in this series.

This go-round Mia is intent on pursuing justice for the death of a young, Asian, teenage prostitute. The jury deliberates, but cant come to a unanimous agreement due to a lone holdout. The jury is declared hung by the judge, and Mia expects her boss to okay the refiling of the case for a new trial. Unfortunately, her boss thinks it a poor use of time and money with the unlikely event of a conviction so no new trial is scheduled. Mia is unhappy with this and vows to herself not to give up in getting justice for the victim and the victims mother.

As Mia investigates with homicide detective, Charlie Carlson, she begins to uncover more than she could have bargained for. The case gets deeper and deeper into the world of human trafficking. While the tension mounts to find the ringleader of this gang, specializing in human trafficking, drugs, steroids and prostitution, Mia is faced with the usual day-to-day challenges and stresses of being a widowed mother of a teenager and toddler. However, she soon finds out that not all is well at home when her teenage son begins to have a drastic change in attitude. She also thinks two of her male friends both want to be more than friends in her life, so they silently compete with one another for her affection, even though Mia doesnt want a man in her life right now. The gang leader soon ramps up his efforts to have the case closed in whatever means possible and the danger strikes Mia and those close to her.

I really am enjoying this series and the character of Mia Quinn. Her character is realistically portrayed and I can certainly relate to her struggles raising her children. Shes got a sense of humor as well as dogged determination. She will never give up on her family or seeking justice for a victim of crime. The plot kept me interested as well as made me much more aware of my own naivet regarding the subject of human trafficking and how it could be happening right in my own city. A wake-up call for sure! There are some references to events that take place in the first two books in the series, so I would read the books in order with book one, A Matter of Trust and then book two, A Deadly Business.

This review was written for Lethal Beauty - eBook.
"Lethal Beauty: A Mia Quinn Mystery" by Lis Wiehl does not disappoint!! I devoured the book in no time at all.

Mia Quinn is trying to wrap up a court case, that should have been rock solid, open and shut case, involving a wealthy businessman. She delves into the case of the Lethal Beauty, Dandan Yee, who was brutally murdered. Then, the unthinkable happens - a key witness goes missing, and one juror holds out for a hung jury, Mia goes looking further into the case.

What she finds is a puzzling case of more murders, prostitution, human trafficking, illegal drug use, all while trying to juggle her job, her family, and trying to deal with life in general.

This is a very good book, that touches on the topics of human trafficking, and drugs. Although, it is not necessarily "Christian" (if you were to define a Christian book that had a strong Christian witness, that gives a direct call to salvation), but--this is a good, clean book that a Christian can read without problems. Even though it does deal with prostitution, and human trafficking, but it does not into great detail. This book kept me up at night to finish it!

I received this ebook free from the publisher for my honest review.

Lis Wiehl knows how to write a crime drama. The story, the plot, the characters, and everything in between had me yearning for more. The plot shed some light on a topic that few others have. Human trafficking and slaves in America, in modern day, is tough to read about. Lis Wiehl does a great job of keeping the mystery in the forefront of the story, while informing the reader about this serious subject.

I loved catching up with Mia, Charlie, Eli, and Gabe again. Mia finally seems to be coming to terms with her new "normal" and is beginning to embrace the life she's left with. Charlie and Eli are fighting for her affection and attention, albeit subtly throughout the book. I know who I want her to fall in love with, but we'll see! I really love reading parts of the book through Gabe's perspective. Not only to we get to watch him become an adult, but it gives us more information about Mia and how she's doing. Parts of the book written through Bo Yee's and Kenny's eyes were fantastically placed. It keeps the story moving and the struggle to solve the crimes in the forefront.

Spiritually, there wasn't a lot of movement. I can still tell Mia is trying to grasp the concept of her father's dramatic change, and she does go to church, but she is still coming to terms with her new-found faith. I hope to see more growth in the future books. However, I am glad the author has written the books realistically.

Overall, I was highly satisfied with this edge of your seat crime drama and look forward to reading more in the Mia Quinn series.

**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through the BookLook blogging program in exchange for my honest review, which I have given.**
