Life was close to perfect for Allen and Chrissy Schofield. They lived in Rolla, Missouri along with their daughter Lily. He was a Campus Minister and Chrissy worked as a free-lance illustrator from home.

Life was busy, two days after their 13th wedding anniversary they finally had a little time to spend together. They decided to go for a joy ride on the motorcycle - an anniversary ride - a ride that would change their lives forever!

Hitting the patch of gravel on the road Allen lost control of the motorcycle. They went off the road into the ditch and were thrown approximately 20 feet through the air. A young lady who was part of their campus fellowship spotted them on her way to work and immediately called the paramedics.

Chrissy was released that evening with a concussion; a couple of friends drove her to the hospital where Allen had been transferred by med-flight. He was not so lucky. Allen had broken his neck and injured his spinal cord. The doctors did not have a good opinion on Allen's diagnosis. They were not positive he would survive, and if he did if he would ever walk again or breathe on his own.

Does Allen survive? Will he ever be able to walk again? How long is Allen out of commission if he does survive? Will Chrissy cling to her faith or will she question God? Grab this book and find answers to all these questions, and realize that God still does hear and answer prayers.

This is a great book. I highly recommend it! It helps you realize we all have the same feelings; when we are on top of the mountain and things are great we trust God and are so in tune with Him, but when we are in the valley and overwhelmed with consequences of life we start questioning God, wondering why me? Fortunately, He is still there right where He always is.

I received this book free from Chosen, a division of Baker Publishing Group as part of their Blogger Review program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

received this book for free to review a couple of months ago, while taking a sabbatical from reading books to study the Bible. However, I felt a persistent tug from God to read this book, "My Life and Lesser Catastrophes" by Christina Schofield. I didn't quite know what to expect, all I knew was that God wanted me to read this book. So I obeyed and boy was I blown away!

The premise of this book was about how she and her husband Allen got into a terrible motorcycle accident. Christina had a bad concussion, and her husband Allen tragically broke his neck and became a quadriplegic.

Christina Schofield chronicles her physical, emotional and spiritual journey in this beautifully written memoir. This book is about faith, hope and love in the midst of tragedy. I can't even begin to tell you how much this book spoke into my life. The second I began reading it, I just couldn't put it down. Christina Schofield's heart was poured out on each page and God's signature was all over it.

I have never fell in love with a book so much in my life. I related to and empathized with Christina Schofield's life in many respects. But she really won me over when I read that she liked Bananarama. Anyone who likes Bananarama is cool in my book!

On a serious note though, my heart broke by what happened and how it translated and played out in all of their lives. But to read her faith journey with God throughout this tragedy was simply amazing. I consider Christina Schoefield a modern day saint. I love her heart and deeply admire her faith. She is a talented writer with an incredible sense of humor. I found myself laughing a lot as she has such a way of describing things even in the midst of such bleak circumstances.

Christina Schofield's book was uncompromisingly honest, raw and real. I really didn't want this book to end, I enjoyed it that much. All I have been doing is telling people about it and will continue to. I highly recommend this book!

The author shares one the most horrific accidents that most people think could never happen to them. Well Christine thought this also. How could God do this to a faithful follower? A lot of us have probably been in similar situations and we get angry with God for not protecting us.

The author writes about her journey in faith and God's silence. This is a beautiful story of God's faithfulness to us and our needs.

When you sit down to read this book you best have a box of tissues close by. Luckily I had just bought a new box of tissues. My heart goes out to this family and what they went through and came out of because of this tragic event.

    I highly recommend this memoir.

    I rate this book a 5 out of 5.

    Disclosure:

I received a copy of this book from Bethany House for review. I was in no way compensated for my review. This is my own opinion.

I am simply blown away by this book! I am blown away with the immense passion that Christina writes and the totally sold-out love for GOD that she demonstrates through her written words. She is honest {unflinchingly so} about her journey of faith and the pits of despair and yes, sometimes anger, that she found herself in following a terrible motorcycle accident that left her with a severe concussion and her husband in a wheelchair.

Ministering to students on a college campus, Allen and Christina seem to have it all figured out. They are lovers of JESUS who have given their lives, their world to serve GOD. And then tragedy strikes — as it sometimes does — and they are left to pick up the pieces and see how GOD would have them put them all back together. Christina is candidly REAL as she shares in her memoir how she clung to GOD and HIS promises and how HE loved her through times of panic and even through times of questioning HIS love for her. I knew exactly what she meant when she shared these words: Deep down though, I felt hurt that my life was going so poorly when the very GOD of the universe had seemed so close a friend.

I have been right there with her. I have cried those tears and clung to the only HOPE I could find — the HOPE that GOD loves me anyway. It is refreshing to read that another wife, another mom, another minister of the Gospel has felt those same emotions. It is wonderful to read that not only has she FELT them, but she has SURVIVED them — and we can too. GOD does care when we hurt and when we cry and HE allows us to question and rebel and cry - And HE is still right there loving us unconditionally!

When life crowds in and our hearts ache, it is comforting to know that GOD is there and has been there and has prepared our way. Christina says that prior to their motorcycle accident "GOD had prepared my Bible ahead of time. It looked like something kids get into trouble for, marked with highlighted verses HE had led me to in the months leading up to all this." How wonderful to know that GOD cares so very much for us!

My Life and Lesser Catastrophes reminds me to "love GOD so much that it spills out over others" and to "humbly serve in a way that perhaps no one else notices." I can think of nothing better. Thanks, Christina Schofield for being honest and living life in such a way that pulls me even closer to my DADDY.

I wholeheartedly recommend that you READ THIS BOOK. You'll be glad you did!

Christina's style of writing in infectious. She is real in her emotions and doesn't sugarcoat the circumstances she finds herself in. You find yourself engrossed in the daily life of her family, but I did find myself wanting an Epilogue. Where are they now? Has her husband been healed? What are her emotions now?

Thanks to the web, I did find some answers on the publishers website under a Q&A on the book.

Overall, this is an excellent read I would recommend to anyone who finds themselves in a season of despair or doubt.

This book was given to me for review by the publisher.
