Publisher's Description

Can a splintered Amish family reconcile?

More than anything else, thirty-something Holly Fisher longs for family. Growing up in Seattle without a dad or grandparents, she wonders what it would be like to have a heritage, a place of belonging. Holly is furious when her mother, Esther, reveals a long-kept secret: Holly’s grandmother and uncles are still alive and begging Esther to return. And Holly is shocked when she learns that the family she’s never known lives on a Lancaster, Pennsylvania, farm—as part of an Amish community her mother once abandoned.

Guilt-ridden Esther, terrified to see her mother and siblings, begs Holly to accompany her on a visit to Esther’s mother before she dies. But can their journey to a conflicting world heal their emotional wounds and finally bring them home?
Set in the heart of contemporary Lancaster County, Leaving Lancaster explores the power of forgiveness, family reconciliation, and love where least expected.

Leaving Lancaster ( Legacy of Lancaster #1 )

    By: Kate Lloyd

This is my first book to read by Kate Lloyd and it will not be my last. Looking forward to reading the other books in this series. I loved reading Leaving Lancaster and had no problems with the story or the characters. Holly Fisher is thirty-something and lives in Seattle. She has always long for grand parents and family. She has her mother and grew up poor. Holly learns about a deep secret that her mother, Esther has kept from her. Esther tells her that they need to go and see her grandmother that is really sick and maybe dying. Holly gets really mad at her mother for not telling her that she has other family. There is a lot of family that still has a hate for Esther for running off when she was young. Holly's dad died before she was borne so she never had a dad. Esther is from an Amish community in Lancaster Pennsylvania. Esther is scared to death to go back to her old home and town. How will the people treat her. Can Holly, a city lady go to her mother's Amish home and do without her cell phone, laptop, hairdryer and all the things she is used to. Kate Lloyd pens a story of mother and daughter and their relationship . There is a lot of family, hate, forgiveness, healing , and love in Leaving Lancaster. To find out more about Holly, Esther, and how things turns out when they go back to Esther's home town and the farm where she grew up, you will need to read Leaving Lancaster.

I was given a copy of this book from the author for my honest review , and I have given it.

This is my first novel by author Kate Lloyd and I absolutely loved it. Amish fiction with a storyline that I havent read before. It is very rare that a book will grab me from the first page. Leaving Lancaster is a book that did just that.

Holly Fisher might seem a little spoiled at times but I tried putting myself in her shoes and I probably would have reacted with a lot more anger and hurt than what she did. Why were these secrets kept from her all these years? Didnt she have a right to know?

Esther Fisher, Hollys mother, is full of secrets and hurts from her past. Can her daughter Holly ever forgive her? Can she forgive herself. Better yet, can her family forgive her?

A lot of healing needs to take place in Esther Fishers life. Seeking forgiveness and asking for forgiveness is needed too. Trust has been taken away and needs to be restored. Will that happen?

I hated when this book came to an end but delighted that I have the second and third books in this series to read. Pennsylvania Patchwork and Forever Amish are those books. I cant wait to see where Esther and Hollys decisions take them. If both of these books are as good as Leaving Lancaster, I am in for a real treat!

This is an author you dont want to miss. I highly recommend Leaving Lancaster.

I thought the story line was great but what did bother me throughout was the rudeness of several of the characters and the abrupt way in which they responded to each other upon first meeting. I would have given this book 5 stars if the characters were friendlier and showed more respect.

    My Review:

Life as a she knows it comes to an abrupt halt when Holly Fisher discovers she has a family. Not just any family, but hundreds of cousins, aunts, uncles, and even a grandmother - in the heart of Lancaster County. Lloyd does an excellent job of conveying the vast array of emotions with the three main characters and gives us a unique glimpse of what actions and consequences have cost three generations of women. Holly has the least blame in everything, but she still stubbornly holds on to anger and resentment at her mother for withholding knowledge of her family's whereabouts.

Now for the one thing that drove me nuts about Holly. Oh, she shaped up and turned out to be a great lead character, but her behavior in the beginning was absolutely terrible. I could hardly believe that any adult would act the way she did. I was very happy to see a change of attitude, and she did a complete 180 in the course of the book. Her entire viewpoint drastically changes and she becomes the woman she was meant to become. Lloyd writes with an above stellar perspective on love, relationships and what it means to truly be a family.

This book was provided by the publisher for free in exchange for an honest review.
