John C. Maxwell's The Right to Lead: Learning Leadership Through Character and Courage is an amalgamation of short profiles of famous leaders (Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, Nelson Mandela, Eric Liddell, George Washington), quotes from famous personalities related to the core of leadership ("Virtue is bold, and goodness never fearful," William Shakespeare), and inspiring photography (racing yachts in full sail, dogsled teams running at full gait). The book is divided into seven sections related to aspects of leadership: action, vision, sacrifice, risk, determination, service, and integrity. In each, Maxwell pulls quotes from his own previously published books, provides lists of goals for and characteristics of leaders, and frequently adds short paragraphs that highlight biblical characters, such as Noah and Abraham, who demonstrated courage and determination against great odds.

Whereas this book can be read through in a little more than an hour, it will more likely be the kind of book that will be pulled from a shelf every few weeks for a quick-fix motivational moment of review and encouragement. It is a handsome hardbound, succinct 7" x 7" text that would make a good graduation, birthday or holiday gift. – Dr. Dennis E. Hensley, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
