Product Description

The Heroes of History series chronicles the true stories of fascinating men and women who changed the course of history.

From the big woods of Wisconsin to the Indian country of the Great Plains, new adventures and landscapes filled the rich childhood of Laura Ingalls Wilder. On a frontier steeped in both danger and great possibility, Laura would grow up to witness firsthand the rapid transformation of the West as pioneers and covered wagons gave way to farms, towns, and railroads.

Publisher's Description

Families will love going beyond the beloved bestselling Little House books to discover the whole adventure-filled life of Laura Ingalls Wilder (1867-1957). Content as a farmer's wife in Missouri, one day at age sixty-one Laura put pen to paper and began to write down some of the stories from her youth. She had no idea when she started whether anyone would even want to read her stories. They did--and she became the famous author of the quintessential American saga known and loved by generations of American families: Little House on the Prairie.

My girls and I read this book as a great review, or overview, of Laura's life. They enjoyed the "Little House" books but this biography was helpful in gaining the big picture of Laura's life. It had some overlap with the series of books but much more information about Laura and her family than review. It was especially helpful in distinguishing truth in Laura's story when they've seen episodes of the TV series. My daughters are 11 and 8.
