Latina Christiana DVDs are taught by Leigh Lowe, author of Prima Latina and a teacher at Highlands Latin School. Mrs. Lowe's engaging personality and experience in front of young students provide a comfortable and inviting environment for introductory Latin study.

The Latina DVDs provide twenty five lessons that are approximately 30 minutes each. They also include review lessons and assistance with difficult exercises.

Leigh Lowe teaches directly to the student with multimedia slides to reinforce the lesson. These DVDs are a great resource for the student to watch or for the teacher to use in planning her lesson. 5 DVDs.

Andreola Review

Salvete! Caesar is dead and Rome has fallen, but Latin is very much alive on Leigh Lowe’s Prima Latina and Latina Christiana DVDs. They are especially designed for parents and students with no background in Latin. (Isn’t that just about everybody?) Although Latin was phased out of most schools back in the mid-’70s, it is making a startling comeback, thanks to the classical studies in the Trivium. Since over half of our English vocabulary comes from Latin, students who study it can develop a richer understanding of modern-day words and concepts, improve their thinking skills, and foster a greater appreciation for the history, theology, and music of the early church—the very roots of our Christian heritage.

Here’s how the Prima and Latina DVDs work. Students are asked to simply review the lesson in the text; watch the same lesson on DVD; then complete the written exercises. Our onscreen teacher, Mrs. Lowe, is enthusiastic, warm, and engaging. Students will find themselves repeating phrases and answering her questions aloud with no prompting from Mom or Dad. Each set contains 25 lessons on DVD to go along with the teacher and student workbook of the same level. Prima (9 hours on DVD) is recommended for first to fourth graders as an early introduction. Older students of all ages will enjoy Latina Christiana (17 hours on DVD).

Each DVD set covers parts of speech, tenses, grammar, vocabulary, numbers, and lines from prayers. Latina Christiana expands lessons with more vocabulary, and even adds songs, Roman history, games, and pronunciation CDs. Lesson plans, tests, and keys are in the teacher’s manual. Handy flash cards are also available.

This is a fantastic course for the little scholars in your home, and practical as well. On the way home from church, Nigel and I were listening to a beautiful requiem on the car radio. I was surprised that I could understand so much of it from the early lessons of Latina Christiana. Deo Gratias!
