Publisher's Description

Birmingham, Alabama, has lost all power. Its streets are jammed with cars that won’t start, its airport engulfed in flames from burning planes. All communications—cell phones, computers, even radios—are silent. Every home and business is dark. Is it a natural disaster . . . a terrorist attack . . . or something far worse?

In the face of a crisis that sweeps an entire high-tech planet back to a time before electricity, the Branning family faces a choice. Will they hoard their possessions in order to survive—or trust God to provide as they share their resources with those around them? Yesterday’s world is gone. Family and community are all that remain. And the outage is revealing the worst in some.

Desperation can be dangerous when a killer lives among them.

New York Times bestselling suspense author Terri Blackstock weaves a masterful what-if novel in which global catastrophe reveals the darkness in human hearts—and lights the way to restoration for a self-centered world.

“Blackstock is absolutely masterful at bringing spiritual dilemmas to the surface and allowing readers to wrestle with them alongside her characters.” —RT Book Reviews, 4.5 stars (of Dawn’s Light)

Publisher's Weekly

The first book in Blackstock's Restoration series literally begins with a bang: airplanes fall out of the sky in the opening paragraphs, at which point the novel's protagonists and readers become swept up in a stunning set of circumstances, the import of which slowly sink in as the novel briskly moves forward. Unlike the deluge of dramatic depictions of the end times, in which Christians disappear and the world reacts, this story focuses on a natural phenomenon, albeit one that most of the characters believe is a message from God, that profoundly alters human society. Blackstock's main characters, the affluent Bannings, who live in suburban Birmingham, Alabama, initially react to this disaster by putting themselves first, for fear that any other strategy would endanger their lives. Soon, however, challenged by the Sermon on the Mount, they begin reaching out generously to neighbors. Their nascent attempts at a communal approach to life will likely be picked up in future novels in this series. Blackstock's subplots are less compelling than her vision of an Electromagnetic Pulse-damaged world; particularly contrived is the story's murder mystery, which plays out predictably. Still, at its best moments, this novel is in league with first-rate adventure fiction and bodes well for the series to come. Copyright 2005 Publishers Weekly.

Imagine this: Today, the world as you know it will end. No need to turn off the lights; there isn't any electricity. Your car suddenly stalls and won't restart. You can't call for help because your cell phone is dead. Everyone around you is having the same problem, and it's just the tip of the iceberg. Your city is in blackout. All communication is cut off. Hospital equipment won't operate. Airplanes are falling from the sky. Is it a terrorist attack, or something far worse? Yesterday's world is gone. Now all you've got is your family and your immediate neighborhood. You stand or fall together. You must rely on each other as never before. But one of you is a killer and he could be your next door neighbor.

Terri Blackstock weaves an interesting "what-if"-novel in which global catastrophe reveals the darkness in human hearts, while presenting a glimmer of hope as well. Last Light centers on the Branning family as they have to decide to keep whatever possessions they have or put their faith in the Lord and share what resources they have with others. The civilians of the small town must come together if they are to survive, especially when there is a killer among them.

Deni Branning and her father Doug had just landed at the Birmingham airport when the power went out. It wasn't a normal power outage. Cars didn't work and cell phones died. In fact, every piece of modern technology had failed.

The two manage to get home; there they realize their problems are just beginning. With no access to the outside world, they don't know what is happening elsewhere. How wide spread is the power outage? How long will it last? None of this sits well with Deni, who was scheduled to start a new job in Washington DC in a week. Her fiancée is still there and she desperately wants to get back to him. And things just get worse when Deni and her younger sister find the dead bodies.

This is the first book of Terri's that I've read. The story is well-written, the characters are likeable, and the murder pot is intriguing. The what-if analysis really brings it home and makes the reader think. The story focuses on, the thought of material things we have come to love and depend on, being snatched from us, and showing how we so easily hide our true selves behind material things. I'm eager to read the rest of the series.

The Branning family and every other family is experiencing a true crisis one we all hear about but never imagine could happen. Let me also say I hope NEVER EVER happens. Families are having to survive on the land and use what supplies they have. They can buy groceries and other supplies that have been rationed. However how long are those going to last? Then as if the crisis isn't enough now their is a killer in their nieghborhood! Who do you trust? Can you still trust your friends? A Crisis either brings out the best or the worst in a person. The Branning family is a good family full of faith. Terri Blackstocks Last Light and the rest of the books in the series are really good! I loved Last Light and have read the rest of the series also! If you are looking for a somewhat dystopian book that is faith based then the Last Light book 1 of The Restoration Series is for you! So go grab a copy at your library or bookstore. If you grab them from the library you might want to ask for the whole series all at once since your going to want to read them all!

thank you Booksneeze for allowing me to review the Last Light ebook! I am hooked on The Restoration Series!

These books make u think. How would I do in that circumstance. Interesting how it did not change what the Amish were doing. We are spoiled for sure. A love hoe they adapted and how the worse came out in some people.
