MamaG5 Stars Out Of 5Love, love, love it!January 13, 2015MamaGQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This series is a comprehensive approach to grammar. In this book, the students review the parts of speech (taught in the first two books), begin sentence diagramming, learn more comprehensive sentence structure, and how to use a dictionary. As with the other books in the series, students review/learn punctuation, written correspondence, picture narration, and poetry memorization. We have used this series for years and my children have retained almost all the poetry memorization, definitions, and word lists since the beginning.

I've been using FLL materials for 3 years now and feel that this curriculum covers all topics in a way that is easily grasped by students.
Danielle Gallegos5 Stars Out Of 5September 9, 2009Danielle GallegosI really love First Language Lessons for the Well Trained Mind (I am using both level 3 and 4 for my 2 children). They are fully scripted lessons so there is no prep time for teacher and each lesson is clear and easy to follow. This is the best grammar program I have ever used!
Charlene5 Stars Out Of 5August 6, 2009CharleneExcellent program. Have used levels one through three. The well planned scripted lessons are wonderful! Used with the student's workbook, it makes teaching very painless especially if you aren't a language arts expert yourself. I would use it again without reservation. Be sure to use the copywork, dictation, and narration exercises since they prepare the student to be a proficient writer.
Q: First Language Lesson Level 4 Is there a Level 5 or what does one use after using Level 4?
In the book "The Well-Trained Mind" (stock # 306708) the author recommends that this series be followed by "Spelling Workout" and "Shurley English", which also offers a literature supplement.
Q: If you have never used FLL is it ok to start at grade level or should we go back to level 1? I have a 3rd grader
You should be fine starting at grade level even if you haven't used the first two levels.
