My favorite in the series
November 26, 2014
I absolutely LOVE the Lamplighter Theatre series of audio dramas and purchase these every year for gifts. My children ages 15, 12, & 9 enjoy them immensely. The Basket of Flowers is my personal favorite and I'm in my early 40s. Set somewhere in the 1500-1600s, a girl is falsely accused due to jealousy. She is banished from her home with her aging father who is steadfast in faith that God will redeem them. The story reminds me of the Biblical account of Joseph. We listen to these on long trips in the car. Many times I will stop the drama to discuss the godly content with my children to have a 'teaching moment' with them. One such time is when the father prays for God to redeem his daughter and the truth to be discovered. At the exact time of his prayer there is a loud thunder/lightning boom. It is that boom which sets the redemption in motion. It was a great opportunity to discuss with my children how our prayers are ALWAYS heard and even when we don't see the answer immediately, it doesn't mean God's not actively answering our prayers. You will laugh, you will cry, you will triumph with the heroine of this audio drama. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!
I don't know why I find this one easier to tolerate than the others... but it doesn't seem to be as sad to me as the others do. However, it is still on the sad side which is why I still say:
While I enjoy the quality and style in which they bring these stories to CD, however, the actual stories themselves are TOO sad for my taste. They sit on my shelf for the most part because if you are having a bad day these may tend to make your sad mood worse ( I know from personal experience ).
These would not be good for anyone who is sick, sad or in the hospital -- far too melancholy!
I bought this cd as a gift for my niece, but ended up listening to it twice before giving it to her. This is a wonderful story for all ages that teaches us that standing up for what is right may not always be easy. I would recommend this cd to anyone who has a desire to raise their children for Christ, but once again this story can be enjoyed by all ages.
