    KNOWING GOD BY NAME

    By:

    David Wilkerson

As you take a journey through this beautifully written book of knowledge of ten of God's name stop and drink the name and meaning in like a fresh drink from a spring that only God has running for you to drink to refresh your soul. So here we go on a journey that will change the way you call out to God for help, peace and strength.

I was intrigued when I discovered that God had so many names and they had meaning behind them. Of course I was a lot older then I would have like to been to find out God had other names and they had meanings that you could call out those names for help. My Pastor only used God I never heard any other name the whole time I went to that Church. Sad!! Then I discovered that they had meanings now we know why our won names have meaning to them right?

In this book Pastor David Wilkerson explores ten Hebrew names yes just ten and so many more names to learn about. Of course you can go to your Bible to search so many more yes God's own Book he wrote through telling people what to write.

Like Gideon said to Jesus " If you were sent by God do something, to make me believe you (Judge 6:17) WOW I wonder if I would have had the guts to be that brave to demand that of Jesus. Would you?

On page 97 of this wonderful book you will read of Gideon and his response to God.

On page 12 it tells how to pronounce God's names. In my church now I love to hear my Pastor say El Shaddai it is a beautiful name.

In names of God men and women find strength, peace, and power what will you find in one of God's name to help you?

Receiving SHALOM-----God's Peace as a Gift from the Lord. You now know that one what are the meanings of the others in this beautifully written book. Well to find out how about grabbing this book, get a cup of coffee, get comfy and get to know your Lord better. I recommend this book highly especially if you want to dig deeper into at least 10 of God's name.

HAPPY READING AND ENJOY KNOWING OUR LORD!!!

I received this beautiful book free from Chosen. I was not required to write a positive review only a honest one. The opinions I have expressed are entirely my own.

This non-fiction book, 'Knowing God by Name' is written by author/senior pastor David Wilkerson, best known for writing the bestselling book, 'The Cross and the Switchblade' back in the early 1960's, selling over 15 million copies in some 30 languages.

I had a feeling that this would be a good book, but I did not realize until I started reading it, that it would also be such a powerful one that I will keep in my own personal library.

Mr. Wilkerson's knowledge of the Bible is astounding and totally alluring as to how he can take the reader back to Bible days, learning the different Hebrew names of God and the meaning behind them, unfolding different aspects of God's character. The author then digs further into God's Word, by relating how these 10 different names of God affect the children of Israel back then and many other Bible characters, as well as his own life, but also how Christians in today's world can learn so many things from the symbolism behind them.

I ended up using this book as a devotional, learning many new things I hadn't read or heard before and he showed me simple, but profound truths from God's Word that I can apply in my own life. A great book for any Christian wanting to know God more intimately.

Can knowing the names of God truly bring hope and healing? The answer is a resounding, "YES." As David Wilkerson, probably known best as the founder of Teen Challenge and the author of The Cross and The Switchblade, I, too, know the healing power of God's names found in Scripture; those names followers of Jesus cry out in the midst of turmoil, inner struggle, and hurt.

David Wilkerson shares the study of these names of God, laced with personal illustrations and testimonies he has witnessed.

Wilkerson does not write on every name of God. He rather emphasizes the personal revelation of several names. God revealed His names only as His people needed them, in times of crisis. He chose to explore those names of God in which he found encouragement in his own times of crisis. Rather than a scholarly book, this is a very personal look at several names of God and the personal impact they can have on our lives.

This is a book for weary or hurting believers needing assurance in time of trial. Wilkerson reminds us, "Our help is in the name of the Lord..." (Ps. 124:8a) Isaiah tells us we are to trust in the name of the Lord. (Isa. 50:106) Knowing God's names helps us understand His nature and character and gives us encouragement.

Wilkerson begins with Abraham, how he received the revelation of "God most high, creator and possessor of heaven and earth" (El Elyon). We are encouraged to lay hold of that revelation too, trusting that El Elyon holds our entire lives and well being in His hands. We are to rest in knowing God is all powerful and all sufficient (El Shaddai). Abraham also experienced Jehovah Jireh, "the Lord who sees," providing the lamb for the sacrifice.

We next read about the Israelites being given fresh water at Marah from Jehovah Rophi, "the Lord who heals you." Wilkerson challenges us to allow our own bitterness and hurt to be healed. If not, God may be experienced as Jehovah Makkeh, "the God who smites" (discipline).

With continued insight, Wilkerson takes us through Jehovah Nissi (the Lord our banner), Jehovah Tsebaioth (the Lord of hosts), Jehovah Shalom (The Lord our peace), Jehovah Tsidkenu (the Lord our righteousness), Jehovah Shammah (the Lord is there), Jehovah Rohi (the Lord my shepherd), and Immanuel (God with us). He ends the book with chapters on the God who pardons and the God who intercedes for us

Wilkerson relates each of the biblical stories and names revealed to our own situations, encouraging us to claim the truth about God in that name. His chapter on Jehovah Tsidkenu (the Lord our righteousness) is something every Christian should read.

Wilkerson says living the godly walk includes acknowledging, believing, embracing, and acting upon the revelation we have been given of who God is. This is an excellent book on knowing the character of God through the names by which He has revealed Himself. Every chapter is a sermon full of insight and encouragement. I highly recommend this book.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

Rather than a scholarly treatment of the names of God, Wilkerson has chosen to write about how the names of God give us heart-knowledge of Him. God is infinitely multi-faceted, so we need to understand that every time He reveals one of His names in scripture, He is giving us a picture of how He relates to us.

Abraham, friend of God, received many such names. Wilkerson explains what those names mean to us today. As Pastor Wilkerson points out, God "revealed these names to His people only as they needed them." After all, it means much more to hear from Jehovah Jireh when He is actually engaged in providing for your desperate need!

This is a user-friendly book for all Christians, not just theologians or teachers.

I received a free electronic copy of this book from Bethany House/Chosen for my review.
