This was the first time I have been appalled at the lack of quality of a bible. I've purchased a number of bibles over the years as I like to have a good variety of translations and features to use and as soon as I took this bible out of the cardboard sleeve I knew it was NOT a good bible to have purchased.
I think the first thing I noticed that was bad was the quality of the imitation leather. It is super thin and is overlaid onto a very stiff cardboard material. The edge of the cover is very "sharp" feeling as at least one other reviewer mentioned. The binding is purely glued, and is very stiff and the bible doesn't open well at all. Then once I opened it the smell hit me. The fumes! Oh they are bad!
The font size is great and is truly giant print but the paper is quite thin and crinkly-sounding. But I couldn't offer much more information than that because I couldn't stand the toxic fumes emanating from the pages, they were giving me a headache. I quickly closed it and put it back in the sleeve. I only paid $7.99 so I'll just donate it to a local thrift store. If someone isn't bothered by the fumes and the sharp cover then I really hope they enjoy that bible and get a lot of use out of it.
Personally I would have considered having it re-bound except for the fumes emanating from the pages. I cant handle that so it's a no-go for me.
It shows that this bible originally retails for $20, no way in heck would I pay $20 for it in-store if I was able to pick it up and open it. Nope!
Are we talking about the same Bible? Of course, I love the KJV and the print is quite legible, though it isn't as large as other giant print Bibles I have. However, the main disappointment I have with this Bible is the cover. It isn't imitation leather; it isn't even a good quality cardboard. It's brittle! I bought it to put into our Children's Store at church, thinking they might use their points to "buy" one for Father's Day gifts. I'm glad I only ordered one, though I had planned to buy more. Truthfully, I'm almost ashamed to take it to the Children's Store. I'm sorry, I've never written such a negative review before and I've happily made hundreds of purchases from CBD for at least 27 years. Surely I must have been sent the wrong Bible.
I teach a weekly Bible study and needed some Bibles to give to students that do not own one. The large print was wonderful for those who find small print difficult to see. It is also portable so that they can carry it around with them easily. The price was wonderful since I usually have to give out Bibles several times during the year. I would recommend this to others.
