It was just what we were wanting for our pastor Our pastor had had his Bible stolen out of his van. He was lost without it. We gave him an early Pastor Appreciation gift and this is the Bible he had been drooling over. He has thanked us again and again. September 6, 2012

Good Bible, Except for Some Minor Defects... I really WANTED to like this Bible more! It's a great value, very handsome leather cover, clear, readable typeface, plenty of margin space for notes, practical design and layout, etc.. But as a longtime King James Version reader, I kept noticing a lot of (minor) changes that kept popping up as I was reading from this edition (Hendrickson KJV Ministers's Bible). I hate to say it, but whoever did the proofreading for this Bible was either not very familiar with the KJV, or else they were and simply decided to take a few liberties with it. I kept coming across pronoun changes, article changes and spelling changes, which in themselves are MINOR, but when you're as used to the KJV as I am, they seemed sporadic and lacking any uniformity or consistency to them. (I say, if you're going to "modernize" or update or "correct" the KJV, at least let your reader KNOW you're doing it--and at least do it all the way through!) Which is a real shame because this Bible has everything else going for it. The quality of the materials for the price paid is excellent, probably owing to its being made in China. Unfortunately, for somebody like me whose avocation is copywriting (which means I'm always proofreading!) and who has grown to know and love and become VERY FAMILIAR with every word, every syllable, every cadence of the venerable old KJV--I KNOW when somebody's been TINKERING with the text! Now, if you're the type that doesn't mind a few alterations along the way (I'd call them ERRORS)--which while they don't really affect the MEANING of the text, they can seem like POTHOLES that suddenly show up on a road you've driven down a hundred times before!--then ignore this review. But if you're as steeped in the language of the KJV as I am, well,... Sorry, Hendrickson, I don't think you paid enough attention to the "small stuff" before letting this one go to print!
