I've owned this Bible for about two months now, and I use it for my daily Bible studies...as well as my overall Bible reading.
The font size is very good, and the print is crisp so it's very legible. The study notes are pretty good overall, but there are certain words, verses, and subjects that they either give a generalization...or it's skipped all together. To be honest I'd much rather have it this way, than to have a very bad interpretation.
I really like all of the images of places/items as well as the maps and charts. It's great for understanding where the regions spoken of in the Holy text occurred as to their names today.
I've not noticed any misspellings as another reviewer had noted. (Acts 9:10 the word "certain" is spelled correctly in my copy)
The only really negative thing I can say about this is that most of the colored pages come stuck together. And it takes quite a while to separate them. I had to use an exacto knife to get in-between a few of them in order to do this. But even though it can be aggravating...it's not something that would prevent me from purchasing it again as a gift!
I am very pleased with my new Holman KJV study bible. This is my first full color study bible and I am very impressed with the design and layout. I own several study bibles but this is by far one of the best. I love everything about it including the book introductions and outlines which are very informative and concise. The time-lines, charts, maps, illustrations, and essays are all first class. I have not read all the annotations yet but the ones I have are just the kind I'm looking for; for example, the ones I've read so far will give all the know arguments for various interpretations of a passage of scripture but it takes no preference to either one, this I like, such as in Genesis 6:2 when referring to the "sons of God." The annotations are separated from the main text by a bold gold line and the verses are numbered in a bright blue making them easy to find. Center column references verse numbers also in blue. Text is a good size that I can read with low power reading glasses. I'm 63 and use reading glasses to read everything now. The full color maps and charts and timelines help to explain so much. It has a very nice size concordance and a glossary with words of the old King James text with their meanings is very valuable along with a table of weights and measures. Eight full color maps in the back. It is Smyth sewed with a black and white ribbon marker. I got the genuine leather which is very good quality. The text is self pronouncing and the paper is nice and thick but the signatures were put together before the ink was fully cured and one must take care in separating them especially at the beginning of each book where there is red ink. Other than that if you like KJV bibles you will absolutely love the Holman KJV study bible. I highly recommend it.
This is my first ever study bible. I've been taking Christian Educator classes and teaching Sunday School with a non study bible. Since having this great I definitely see improvements in my studies and a deeper understanding of the text. I get a lot of compliments about the Holman Bible because sometimes I use it in my classes. I'm very satisfied with this purchase.
If you are looking for KJV Study Bible with all the extras...look no furthur. This is the right one! To begin with, the exterior is gorgeous, and looks like real leather. I got the leather touch which is imitation...but I cannot tell the difference...looks just like expensive leather to me. Well made, interior text is a good size-9 point, words of Christ in red, good size concordance, and beautiful color photos, many many maps, all in full color,...charts galore, lengthy annotations at bottom of each page, ( the text and the annotations are divided by a thick gold line), many references-all placed nicely in center between the dual columns, lengthy book introductions, lengthy fantastic articles on important subjects found in the Word, (written by different scholars), dictionary of some of the strange words we encounter while reading the Bible...words used in that day that we do not use now, blue ink for the subjects that are within the chapters...stands out beautifully. Gold edging on pages, pages in front of Bible for weddings, babies, etc, The only thing I wish for is that it had maybe 40-50 MORE color photos. ( even small ones, like some of them are) , would make the Bible even better. But other than that, it is perfect!! They are clear gorgeous photos, not at all blurry. Very thick and pretty heavy Bible, ( 3 lbs and 14 oz. ), but I do not mind because I use them at home mostly for comparison and study. You will need to choose a very thick Bible cover for this Bible...if you plan to carry it places. Actual book measurements are: 9.5" x 7.25" x 2". Also has two beautiful satin ribbon markers...different colors to blend in with the Bible cover colors. ( gold and brown). I do highly recommend this Bible! You will not be disappointed.
