Readers start with Shepherd's own inspirational story about her struggles to treat her body well by eating real food, exercising, and praying. She invites readers to sign a covenant in which they agree to jump-start a diet using specific guidelines. Readers are supported with 30 days of personable and helpful devotions with plenty of stories, suggestions for exercise, and appropriate Scripture. Shepherd even includes many of her favorite tasty recipes to keep women on track.
Sheri Rose Shepherd has a gift for speaking straight to women's hearts and souls. Because of that, women will use this book, talk about it, and share it with others.
As she stands on stage, radiantly telling thousands of women about God's love and the beauty that lies within each of them as daughters of Christ, fans of popular speaker and bestselling author Sheri Rose Shepherd might find it hard to believe that she ever believed anything different about herself. Yet in her newest devotional, Fit for My King, Shepherd lays bare her personal life story with honest and intimate detail that shows the truly redemptive work God has done in her lifeand that he desires to work in all of us.
"I share my story with other women so that they know they're not alone, and so that they can see that God offers hope for a new way of living," says Shepherd, who will be a keynote speaker on the 2010 Extraordinary Women Tour.
In her new book, she helps women fight one of the battles that can be one of the most detrimental they endure from a very young age: that of body image and self-esteem. It is a battle that Shepherd knows all too well, having struggled with eating disorders for years as she sought love and affirmation through food and her physical appearance. She kept trying to look beautifuleven winning beauty pageant crownsbut nothing seemed to help; she felt overwhelmingly unwanted and unloved, to the point of checking into a hotel with the expectation of ending her life. But it was at that point that God intervened to show her that she was loved, just as she was, deep down to her core. She left that hotel with a new lease on life, having given hers to Christ.
It was only through her newfound faith that she was able to shake off the shackles of what she now calls Barbie Bondage, which almost took her life. Fit for My King is a resource that will walk other women through this journey of cultivating a healthy self-image and learning to offer their bodies to God as living temples.
With a 30-day plan filled with encouraging, Scriptural devotionals, Shepherd helps women understand why this battle rages within them and how to break freelearning to see themselves through Gods eyes and turn away from the lies and sins of their pasts that keep them from embracing the truth about their beauty as heirs with Christ. With Shepherds beloved His Princess love letters and prayers sprinkled throughout, readers receive the heartfelt and motivating messages that have made her books bestsellers throughout the world.
Shepherd also includes a healthy diet plan and well-rounded recipes that will help women learn to take care of their bodies. This task is both a spiritual as well as a physical one, and she teaches that if we want to find deliverance from unhealthy eating and lifestyle habits, a diet must be about honoring God, not just about fitting into the most flattering pair of jeans.
Our God desires for His beloved daughters to experience good health and for their souls to soar, Shepherd explains. When we see ourselves, our bodies and food in a new lightin the way God intendedwe dine as if were dining with the King. Thats what Fit for My King is about: teaching women to nourish their souls and renew their minds while learning to take care of their bodies, Gods temple. Then, we become the best versions of ourselves and find true, legendary beauty.

CKendall5 Stars Out Of 5November 15, 2009CKendallThe subtitle of Fit for My King is His Princess 30-Day Diet Plan and Devotional. That is not entirely accurate because this book is so much more than a diet plan. This book is a plan for living a healthy life, not just physically, but mentally as well. I absolutely love this book and I admire Sheri Rose Shepherd for openly and honestly sharing her struggles and triumphs to help her readers live a healthy life. Each daily devotional deals with a real-life topic that we can all apply to our lives right now. There is also a prayer and a Bible verse. I really like the His Princess in Action at the end of each devotional. It always gave me a lot to think about and a way to put in practice what I just read.Fit for My King is a book that can help a lot of women who are dealing the self esteem issues, body image issues and other issues regarding not feeling good enough for God. This book has reassured me that I am good enough for God and that I am indeed His princess. What a comfort it is to know that. I know that Sheri Rose Shepherd has had a lot of difficulties and struggles and I thank her so much for sharing those struggles and helping other women. I highly recommend this book to help you with your health and fitness journey.
