Works For Our Family
I recently got in my daughterâÂÂs car to get the oil changed. She is a recent college graduate and a dental hygienist, i.e. she is a normal twenty something young lady. In the midst of the many assorted items in the vehicle, I found from my collection the Kim Hopper project, âÂÂI Just Wanted You to KnowâÂÂ. Although, I was not happy to find it off of its place on my shelf, I had to smile that she picked this album to listen to in her car. Why? Because it is one of my favorites and of all my hundreds of CD, she chose this one.
It is shame Canaan Records did not promote this project as it was worthy of so much more attention than it got. Gerald CrabbâÂÂs âÂÂThe Promised Landâ works for me as does the kickoff cut of âÂÂWhen God SingsâÂÂ.
âÂÂGospel To The WorldâÂÂ, a Paula Stefanovich song, is the kind of song that lets Kim be the singer we know she is. The more I hear this tune, the more I like it. The background vocals and orchestration complement the wonderful voice of this young lady.
Kim does Dolly Parton on âÂÂWhat Will I WearâÂÂ. Maybe not a âÂÂCoat of many ColorsâÂÂ, but this certainly makes your mind go there. This does makes for a mountain music sound of a well written song from Deborah Bailey.âÂÂWell Done Well Doneâ is one of those songs that make you reflect on your own success as one of GodâÂÂs children.
My favorite on this album is âÂÂThe Woman In My Little GirlâÂÂs RoomâÂÂ. Sounding like Reba on verse one, Kim interprets this Jerry Sally and Aaron Wilburn song well enough to land it on country radio. Husband Dean Hopper adds his vocals, making this a most significant recording. This one could have crossed over from Canaan to country if the label had been creative in promoting this tune. My daughterâÂÂs fav, too!
Sounds like âÂÂThe Devil Lost His Keysâ was written for Walt Mills. Just thinking out loud here! âÂÂThat Sounds Like Heaven To MeâÂÂ, another Paula Stefanovich tune, allows Kim to sing by âÂÂletterâÂÂ, turn it loose and âÂÂlet herâ fly.
Marcia HenryâÂÂs âÂÂCome Out Planningâ has the energy I expect to find in an upbeat Kim Hopper song and is getting some attention on radio. Wonderful background singers and KimâÂÂs vocals make this one of the best efforts on this album.
The last cut of the ten songs, âÂÂI Just Wanted You To KnowâÂÂ, was written by well known songwriter, Kyla Rowland. This title cut is full of words that work well to paint the picture of how God works in the life of a believer. I truly find myself knowing beyond the shadow of a doubt Kim knows and loves her Savior today more than ever. Powerful song!
Only the second solo effort from Kim Hopper, one of the industryâÂÂs most recognizable and favorite voices, this album is one to secure ASAP as the Canaan label has gone AWOL. Secure it SOON and you wonâÂÂt be disappointed.
