It Just Happens
With food, drug, alcohol, and pornography addictions strangling our society today, this book provides hope for those caught in the never-ending cycle of trying to break free from addictions.
You will learn that addiction is a weak attempt to have real needs (purpose, unconditional love, security) met now, and our own efforts to meet those needs is a way try and maintain control over our life. This does not work and we actually loose control.
Often addicts first try to break free on their own, but author Anne Laidlaw points out that this is impossible and the only way to break free is being totally obedient to the ways and guidance of the Lord.
Laidlaw takes an in-depth look at addiction, not just the effects. She gets down to the cause, and offers encouragement and practical guidelines for those who want to discover the euphoria of breaking free.
Follow this easy, yet sometimes tough plan of freedom and build a relationship with God, who heals the brokenhearted.

Tell us a little about yourself. I have a private counseling practice in Auckland New Zealand. I run Emotional Healing Courses for men and women and a 'Kick Addiction' Course based on my book at my local church, one of the largest in Auckland city. I train group facilitators and supervise counselors and group facilitators.I also speak at retreats and camps. My passion is writing and bringing God's word and freedom to God's people. I have three wonderful children who all serve in God's kingdom.
What was your motivation behind this project? After working with a client who had been under bondage to bulimia and anorexia for ten years and had 'tried everything', we worked together for a year when she finally became free. Our work together forms the basis of this book.I wanted to write a book that was available to everyone to read and understand. So many books I had read on addiction seemed too long and intellectual.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope and pray they will come to understand the forces driving them toward their addictions, will open their hearts to God's healing power and the way He works, renew their minds and be open to receive His healing and freedom.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Since writing this book I have seem many people's lives change as a result of reading 'Kick Addiction' and also from doing the course we run based on this book.It is a book about spiritual growth and as one man remarked "Everyone should read this book, not just addicts"
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? The Bible is my greatest influence. It contains such amazing truth as I delve into it. I also read many Christian books and particularly enjoy the work of Dan Allender,Leanne Payne, Oswald Chambers and many others.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: If you are having problems with addictive behavior God wants to set you free. Seek Him and He will show you the way.
