Influenced by musicians like Elvis Presley, Queen and John Lennon, and by writers like C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Kevin Max offers up an incredibly creative new release in Stereotype Be. He fuses numerous musical genres into a cohesive whole, and combines his original poetry with equally orginal lyrics. For those fans who enjoyed Kevin's poems on previous DC Talk releases, there are two new ones on this album, read with the passion only a true poet can bring.
With deep, insightful lyrics, Kevin reaches out to those dealing with the struggles of life's reality. The song Existence was written to help those struggling with a sense of purpose in an often purposeless world. The song Be is Kevin's "appeal to people to be who God wants them to be", with a poignant reminder of the value of the individual. The poem Union of the Soul is a wonderful description of our dependence on God, and the importance of Him in our lives as we seek to be the people He has made us to be. Other songs include: Return of the Singer, Angel With No Wings, Shaping Space, Dead End Moon, Alycen and the Secret Circle, I Don't Belong, Blind, On and On, Her Game, and Deconstructing Venus, along with the poem I Went Over the Edge of the World.

Kevin Max is versatile as a singer/songwriter. I don't like CDs where every song sounds the same and is in the same key, so I can listen to this one and find something new each time.

This is an excellent, eclectic C.D. The songs are quite multilayered and full of interesting instrumentations. The lyrics are poetic, and almost every song is highly emotionally evocative, deep and meaningful.

My oldest daughter and I listened to this together, and we both loved it. My daughter likes a lot of secular music, and she absolutely loved this album. She especially liked the song I don't belong.

I was captivated from the first sung line of this album. I found myself driving 80 mph after listening to the first track, "Return Of The Singer", just once in the truck. From there it goes into the emotionally polar-opposite, "Existence", a haunting plea for a sense of purpose. Be sure to index to about 5:10 on the last track and hear a hidden track called "One", a shameless song of praise to God. Even the K-Max haters can't dispute his heart on this one. Great thought-provoking music from one of the most enigmatic figures in Christian music.

This CD is in my top five favorites! The songs he wrote spoke from his heart: turmoil, romance, his feelings went from his CD to me. I admire him for showing his emotions. Most guys clam up about what they feel.

Tony Levin and Matt Chamberlain are a "match made in heaven." Add Adrian Belew and a brilliant singer (Max) and you have a recipe for greatness. The songwriting ranges from excellent to fair. Almost half the songs are excellent, and there are excellent moments among the rest (the final cadence of "Shaping Space" is an outstanding moment among music recordings). It's a long record and if they "trimmed the fat" a bit with the songwriting, it would be a solid 5/5. I greatly enjoy this album, and putting Levin and Chamberlain on the rhythm section is simply ingenious.

I wish I could go higher but I can't. I was so afraid to buy this cd, but it turned out I loved it! There is only 1 song I do not like. He’s got a great voice and I think his cd is just as good as Tait's and Tobymac's, but I have to say they ALL sound way better together!
