After the tragic death of Butch Browning’s wife, Jenny, four families begin to realize how precious—and fleeting—their time together is. Each is at a different stage in life: Butch is facing single parenthood. The O’Reillys are expecting their first child. The Andersons are approaching an empty nest, and the Buckleys are so focused on providing their children with everything that they’ve forgotten what they truly need. With just eighteen summers before their children are grown, how do they make the most of that time when life so often gets in the way?

As summer flies by, each of these parents must learn about guilt and grace . . . and when to hold on to their kids and when to let go.

Just 18 Summers by Rene Gutteridge & Michelle Cox

Four families face tough life lessons each in a unique, believable, and realist way. A parents worst nightmare comes true when Beth and Larry face an empty nest. Butch is left to face single parenthood after the death of his wife. Daphne and Tippy are preparing for their first child and Charles and Helen want their children to have everything they didnt. Their stories intertwine and make a great story.

I found Just 18 Summers to be refreshing and at times laugh out loud funny. The characters are down to earth and real. I could see me and my own daughter in this story. This is the first book I have read by Rene Gutteridge or Michelle Cox, but I plan to find more books by them. I really enjoyed this book. I recommend it to all that like Christian fiction. This book is worthy of 5 stars. Its a great book for parents in all stages of raising their children.

I want to give a high-five to the authors Rene Gutteridge and Michelle Cox and publisher Tyndale Fiction for bringing compelling Christian books that are entertaining and give hope to the reader with stories of faith. The Book Club Network Inc. provided me with this book in exchange for my honest review and I am so grateful for their, the authors and publishers generosity.

Until reading this book I had never thought in terms that we have only 18 summers with our children. For some reason 18 years sounds like a long time but 18 summers seems so short and far too soon we realize that they have grown up and are ready to start their own lives and families and its too late to do the things with them and for them that we wish we still had time to do. A thought provoking story of how we spend our time with them.

The book is about four families who are having to deal with their grief, quilt, fears and challenges. Lessons for parents reminding us that we need to spend quality time with our children. There is humor that will make you laugh and instances that will bring some tears. After the death of Jenny Browning Butch has become a single parent to his daughter Ava and has no idea how to raise her. Beth who is Jenny's sister and her husband are dealing with the fact that they will soon be an empty nest family. Tippy and her husband who are expecting their first child want to be a good parents and protect their baby. Beth's neighbor Helen who wants everything, her life, her house and her children to be perfect, learns what is really important.

I loved this book. One for all parents and grandparents to read. The authors Rene Gutteridge and Michelle Cox did a great job in writing this story. Loved all of the characters.

I received a copy of this book from bookfun.org for my honest opinion and review.

"Just 18 Summers" is a wonderful novel by Rene Gutteridge and Michelle Cox. The book contains many main characters, yet is easy to follow. It will touch the heart of everyone that reads it. The life and death of Jenny Browning is what has brought this group of friends together, causing each of them to rethink their lives, careers and parenting styles.

I loved how "real" each person was in describing their feelings as they dealt with their life choices. I laughed out loud when single dad, Butch Browning was trying to figure out how to make a treat for his daughter to bring to school, and I totally understood Beth's feelings as her daughter was planning her wedding. So much of this book contains situations that I have had in my life, and I think it will be real to others as well. Each of us has 18 summers to spend with our children! I think this story will make everyone that reads it think deeper about what is most important to them!

I am happy to give this book 5 stars! I would recommend it for any age group. It is a clean, thought provoking story. I received this book from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.

Just 18 Summers was different than I was expecting ... and different than any other book I can think of right now. After Jenny Browning is tragically killed in a car accident, her family and friends aren't sure how to pick up the pieces and move on. Additionally, each of them seems to be facing other issues and "growing pains" as their kids are getting married and going to college, dealing with teenage angst, and welcoming their first child.

The book switches between seven different perspectives, which I thought would be confusing, but somehow worked for this book. It gave a complete story, although I would have liked to hear more from Butch Browning, I think. Parts of the story were a little stressful to read, maybe too realistic. But the way that all the parts worked together made for a really poignant story. [4 stars]

Just 18 Summers is definitely on my top 10 list of must read books! At times I laughed so hard I had to read excerpts to my family so theyd understand why I was laughing. At other times I cried tears of sorrow, of joy and of understanding. Four families in the story each tell their side of the parenting world and the struggles of raising kids for 18 summers from birth through adulthood. The book tells the story of how one life touches so many others and the best preaching that ever happens is what a Christian lives out every day in normal circumstances.

Jenny Browning may have never known the incredible impact she had on the people in her life but through their stories, each person tells how Jenny touched them and pointed them to God.

Butch never intended on being a single parent but life threw him into parenthood with a beautiful little girl, Ava and the loss of his wonderful wife, Jenny. Butch does the best he can with pizza dinners, but hes missing so much more than cooking lessons. His daughter becomes his teacher and he finds 18 summers goes very fast.

Beth has prayed over her children every day of their lives. Shes asked God to give them spouses who are of His choosing. Beth has trusted the Lord all of her life, at least she thinks shes trust Him until her faith is tested. When Beths daughter announces shes marrying a pizza delivery boy, Beth falls apart. This was never in her plans for her daughter, Robin. As Beth realizes shes tried to protect her children from anything hurtful or harmful, she also realizes shes tried to control them out of Gods plan for each of them. Beth finds that 18 summers has flown by before she realized it and she never taught her daughter everything she could to make the perfect choices in life.

Daphne is pregnant with her first baby and shes determined to do it right. She finds every book on pregnancy, parenting, and child care that she read. With all of the planning shes doing, she finds herself in a place where shes not trusting God for her life or the life of her child. Slowly in her psychotic planning and preparing, Daphne has alienated her husband, Tippy.

Charles and Helen have the perfect life. They dress perfectly, live in the perfect house, have perfect children, or at least it appears like that from the outside. Helen wants to give her children everything and Charles is driven enough to make that happen. But in all of their perfection, they are realizing 18 summers with their children is not something they can buy.

Each family faces their own trials and tribulations but all come to realize 18 summers is all theyre going to have with their children. Just 18 Summers is a fantastic read! I cannot say enough great things about the book. However, I can say that Ill be adding books by both Rene Gutteridge and Michelle Cox on to my to be read list.

I received Just 18 Summers from the Book Club Network and Tyndale Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion.
