Product Description

You see it on all the networks magazine covers: Who is the Real Jesus? Usually, he's not the man they present. Apologist Lee Strobel examines the biblical Jesus, comparing him to the user-friendly version presented by the secular press, the man without the deity. In The Case for the Real Jesus, you'll be armed with the truth to defend Christianity in an increasingly hostile world.

Publisher's Description

Has modern scholarship debunked the traditional Christ? Has the church suppressed the truth about Jesus to advance its own agenda? What if the real Jesus is far different from the atoning Savior worshipped through the centuries? In The Case for the Real Jesus, former award-winning legal editor Lee Strobel explores such hot-button questions as: • Did the church suppress ancient non-biblical documents that paint a more accurate picture of Jesus than the four Gospels? • Did the church distort the truth about Jesus by tampering with early New Testament texts? • Do new insights and explanations finally disprove the resurrection? • Have fresh arguments disqualified Jesus from being the Messiah? • Did Christianity steal its core ideas from earlier mythology? Evaluate the arguments and evidence being advanced by prominent atheists, liberal theologians, Muslim scholars, and others. Sift through expert testimony. Then reach your own verdict in The Case for the Real Jesus.

Author Endorsement

"WOW! The Case for the Real Jesus is fantastic. This is a NEEDED book and we're honored to introduce it to Saddleback. This is Lee’s best book ever!"
–Rick Warren

Publisher's Weekly

Atheist-turned-Christian Strobel, with four Gold Medallions and other awards, focuses on rediscovering the “real” Jesus, whose identity and message have come under attack in recent years. He addresses six major challenges and claims: that a “different Jesus” is seen in ancient documents that seem as credible as the four canonical gospels; that tampering by the church has damaged the Bible's portrayal of Jesus; that new explanations refute Jesus' resurrection; that Christianity copied pagan religions regarding Jesus; that Jesus didn't fulfill messianic prophecies; and that contemporary people should be able to choose what to believe about Jesus. As with his previous books, Strobel attacks the issues as an investigative journalist, though one with a clear agenda. He searches out experts (including Craig A. Evans and Michael Licona) to refute each objection, offering readers top evangelical scholarship revealed in everyday language while challenging the claims of liberal writers like John Shelby Spong, Bart Ehrman and others. “In the end,” he says, “none of these seemingly daunting challenges turned out to be close calls... they were systematically dismantled by scholars... with facts, logic and evidence.” Evangelical readers will come away with deeper understanding of the various arguments about Jesus. A great book for anyone who wants to go deeper than "More Than a Carpenter" does for the 'case for Jesus'.

As a new teacher of Religion at the university level, Strobel's book is a great addition to a solid basis for research and style, in particular for me the defense of Jesus as a historical figure- the attacks on Jesus as the pivotal figure who transformed history have been brutal and growing, and Strobel gave me the solid scholarship and academic research I needed to strengthen my faith in Christ! Amen Lee!

Strobel was able to strengthen my faith, stimulate my mind and spur my desire for defending the truth. Whether you're a college student, a long-time christian or just curious about Christianity's claims, you can find in this book answers to many questions and objections circulating these days. You could retitle this book The Quest for the Real Jesus.

In todays world its a book we all should read, even if we have no doubts about the real Jesus. The author gives a lot of useful information that we can use in our defense of our faith when we encounter doubters. I own and have read this book. This particular copy I bought as a gift to someone who has been agnostic but is reevaluating his views. It is a useful tool to all who will read it, believers and doubters alike.

Well written from a lay persons prospective. This would be an excellent addition to anyone's library. It does not drag on like some other books dealing with the subject of Jesus, but gives some interest facts not usually found in a popular authors book.
