Product Description

You see it on all the networks magazine covers: Who is the Real Jesus? Usually, he's not the man they present. Apologist Lee Strobel examines the biblical Jesus, comparing him to the user-friendly version presented by the secular press, the man without the deity. In The Case for the Real Jesus, you'll be armed with the truth to defend Christianity in an increasingly hostile world.

Publisher's Description

From college classrooms to bestselling books to the Internet, the historic picture of Jesus is under an intellectual onslaught. This fierce attack on the traditional portrait of Christ has confused spiritual seekers and created doubt among many Christians – but can these radical new claims and revisionist theories stand up to sober scrutiny?

Author Endorsement

"WOW! The Case for the Real Jesus is fantastic. This is a NEEDED book and we're honored to introduce it to Saddleback. This is Lee’s best book ever!"

–Rick Warren

Publisher's Weekly

Atheist-turned-Christian Strobel, with four Gold Medallions and other awards, focuses on rediscovering the “real” Jesus, whose identity and message have come under attack in recent years. He addresses six major challenges and claims: that a “different Jesus” is seen in ancient documents that seem as credible as the four canonical gospels; that tampering by the church has damaged the Bible's portrayal of Jesus; that new explanations refute Jesus' resurrection; that Christianity copied pagan religions regarding Jesus; that Jesus didn't fulfill messianic prophecies; and that contemporary people should be able to choose what to believe about Jesus. As with his previous books, Strobel attacks the issues as an investigative journalist, though one with a clear agenda. He searches out experts (including Craig A. Evans and Michael Licona) to refute each objection, offering readers top evangelical scholarship revealed in everyday language while challenging the claims of liberal writers like John Shelby Spong, Bart Ehrman and others. “In the end,” he says, “none of these seemingly daunting challenges turned out to be close calls... they were systematically dismantled by scholars... with facts, logic and evidence.” Evangelical readers will come away with deeper understanding of the various arguments about Jesus. Lee Strobel is a gifted writer. This book debunks a lot of the anti-Jesus activity of today. It's a great book on apologetics.

Although this may not be one of my particular favorites of Strobel's work, it still answers some very important and current claims that need to be settled. While also reinterating on some very important aspects of Christ.

Strobel has answered the most important current questions about Christ in a manner which the average person can easily understand. He has reinforced the truth that acceptance of the claims of Jesus Christ is not an intellectual problem, but is essentially a moral challenge.

I've read all of Lee's books and I think this is the best. There are a lot of apologetic books that do not really get to the tough questions. They take a surface approach, and while I generally enjoy them, they do not tackle the toughest questions that skeptics bring up. I was very excited when I read what would be covered. Many of them were tough questions that I knew about, but had never really looked into. I've listened to the audiobook, and you will want the book just for the footnotes. This is a great opening to great scholarship and can easily lead into months of more research to check up on all the things overed.

Was hoping this would be a book I could share in the workplace but it seems you would need a college education to read and comprehend it. I would have much preferred more common language i.e. smaller words. Not for the unskilled labor force, unfortunately.
