Over and over Jotham screamed for his family, but there was no one to hear him. They had vanished. He was alone. Where had they gone? How long ago had they left? Through quick, stabbing sobs Jotham told himself, "I must look for my family, I must search until I find them." And so his journey begins. In this widely popular, exciting story for the Advent season, readers follow ten-year-old Jotham across Israel as he searches for his family. Though he faces thieves, robbers, and kidnappers, Jotham also encounters the wise men, shepherds, and innkeepers until at last he finds his way to the Savior born in Bethlehem. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

Our family is reading this now and we will finish the book next week. We LOVE this book. Every chapter leaves you wanting to read more. My son is 9 and we have not had any problems with any of the content but I could see how younger children and those with sensitive children might want to preview the chapter ahead to see if it might need to be altered. We are looking forward to reading about Barthalomew next year!

This book is a "must have" for children during the Christmas season. Each chapter ends as a "cliff hanger," and the reader can't wait to hear what happens next in Jotham's journey.

We fully enjoyed Jotham's Journey last year, and we are completely enjoying Bartholomew's Passage during the advent season this year! Fun how the stories tie together - brings back memories from last year! We like these books and the tradition so much I purchased one for each of my children to have when they leave home. Perfect for my 9 yo son, but I accidently made my 5 yo son cry one night as I read a little too realistically!

Our family is going through this book for the first time this Advent season. We all are enjoying the story immensely and it has sparked discussion as well. Most of all, we enjoy the time to be together in the evening, to read, talk about the story, sing a song and pray as a family. It's been a wonderful resource and I highly recommend this book.

Our family loves this book! We purchased Jotham's Journey to read every night to our oldest three children for Advent. It has been a blessing to see the kids' excitement as they rush to get ready for bed so that we will have time to read together! Most stories leave you hanging in a dramatic twist of events so that you are waiting in anticipation for the conclusion in the next reading. We have also enjoyed the author's remarks at the end of each reading which usually includes a related Bible verse and sums up the lesson learned. This book is a great piece of historical fiction set at the time of Christ's birth that will give your children a feel for what that period in history was like and will equip them with knowledge of Biblical events surrounding Christ's birth in an effortless manner. It makes the birth of Jesus more real and awe-inspiring, because kids can imagine themselves being there to share in the excitement of looking forward to and celebrating His birth. *I want to also add a note of caution that this book is very graphic at times with violence. The description recommends this book for ages 4 and up, but if you were to read this book as is, I would not read it to a sensitive child or a child under age 10 in my opinion. I found that I needed to read ahead on my own to be prepared to leave parts out or re-word them because I didn't want my kids to have nightmares! I also couldn't put the book down in all honesty :-)! It was easy to leave out the scary parts and to add words of my own, so that did not in any way detract from us enjoying this book!

This is an awesome series to read as a family for Advent. Most chapters end with a cliff-hanger and the kids can hardly wait for the next day's reading!! These books culminate with an exciting finish in Bethlehem, revolving around the birth of Jesus. Bartholomew's Passage and Tabitha's Travels are interwoven with Jotham's Journey in a wonderfully engaging way as a family you recall reading the same things the year before, yet from a different perspective!! Wonderful books!! We are starting over this Christmas season with Jotham's Journey again!!
