In his analytical study of the Fourth Gospel, Merrill C. Tenney provides a highly useful schematic analysis of the Gospel that will help readers discover in full detail the aim, theme, and developed teaching of John. Tenney's analysis of John is taken up in 3 sections. The first section examines the general structure and outline of the Gospel of John. The second, and by far the longest, section provides an exposition of the text of the Gospel, taking up the career of Jesus according to the six periods that seem to be suggested by the Gospel writer. The last section furnishes a topical analysis of the Gospel, summarizing its contents under several headings, including authorship, vocabulary, signs, symbols, and interviews. Charts and diagrams throughout the book also help readers to clearly grasp the major themes of John.
In this useful analytical study Tenney discusses the structure of the Gospel of John and then presents a careful exposition of the text according to the six major periods of Christ's ministry that are suggested by the Gospel writer.
