I am currently in school at Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute and needed several of the books that were in the set. So I elected to buy the complete set instead of buying just what I needed. From what I have read and studied so far they are going to be a Blessing to my ministry. This is a easy read and one of my favorite commentaries. This set will be a true Blessing for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of the word of God.

John Phillips commentaries and books are among my most valued tools. They are purposely on a shelf nearest my desk. His insights into the Scriptures are insightful and practical. I am never disappointed when whether I am reading for personal benefit or researching for teaching and preaching. Sell your shirt if necessary to get John Phillips books.

I am teaching the Gospel of Mark to 75 Middle and High Schoolers. I found this commentary in our church library along with others, and I find myself looking almost exclusively to John Phillips over the others. His thoughts are so fresh and easy to understand unlike some of the others which, although are incredible, are often too deep for youth. I plan on buying the whole New Testament set for myself.

Maybe the best commentaries out there!! His in depth commentary still retains a fully devotional feel while NOT avoiding doctrine/being dogmatic. Some commentaries are accurate( or they are for the most part), the information is accurate and even helpful but it feels like you are reading a calculus or physics lecture. Instead of a cold science lesson you feel the devotion to God; I read his "Exploring Genesis" book and immediately purchased the New Testament series. It's conservative, evangelical(witnessing wise, I mean, to get people saved) and treats the Bible like it really is, The WORD of God- with respect and reverence. I don't know if other great commentaries could be better- the best of the best (of the other)commentaries I have read where AS good as Phillips but not better.

To date I haven't had time to read a lot of the commentaries I purchased as I just received them around the middle of Aug 2009. I have ventured into Genesis and have found it to be very enthralling. I find that Dr.John Phillips make the people come alive and shows them to behave as we do...saved by the grace of God but still struggling with the cares of the of the world. I do admire his style and prose. I recently read his book titled... The Minor Prophets and also volume#1,of The People of the Old Testament. I found both books to be the best I had read in a long time. Phillips sense of making these people become real and not just characters in the Bible, make me want to read more and more of his books. I find a true blessing when I read his books on any given subject or person in the Bible..the one drawback if there is one, is that a Bible is necessary to follow much of his writing as not all scripture is always included...but hey...that is really not an issue with me at all. My Bible is always nearby to refer to at any given time. Thanks for your time to read my opinion. I highly recommend Dr John Phillips commentaries. gabrielle

One word: INCREDIBLE. John Phillips has such an incredible mind. He alliterates everything, and he doesn't take anything out of context. His illustrations bring home the truth he is conveying. It is simple, easy to read, at the same time, very profound. This set would be comparable to John MacArthur's. Only, John Phillips is based on the great King James.
