Product Description

John a Bible Commentary in the Wesleyan Tradition is part of a commentary series that interprets the books of the Bible from a Wesleyan perspective. While it is designed primarily with lay people in mind - Sunday school teachers, Bible study leaders, students of the Word pastors will also find it most helpful. Following the NIV, each book of the Bible is explained paragraph by paragraph, illuminating the key concepts of each passage and how they relate to our life and times today. At the same time, the authors slow down often to examine particular details and alternative understandings that are important for understanding the bigger picture.

The larger series of commentaries that this book is part of is written for laymen: Sunday school teachers and those interested in personal study with some depth. It treats the Biblical text by paragraphs, which I like. The exegesis is done from a mostly literal perspective and inductive method. The sacramental theology of the author is very low. This is not really a useful reference work but it is perhaps helpful in sermon preparation or for devotional study.
