    Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I started doing video back in 2001, as an apprentice for an organization that produces monthly training videos for business about how to implement good character in the work place. Anyway, I eventually started running the video department (producing - writing - directing - editing) all that fun stuff. They started sub-contracting in 2004 right about the time I graduated home school high school and I bought my own computer along with Final Cut Pro, since that is what I knew how to use, and started my own business, ReelCast Productions.

What was your motivation behind this project?  The project got started during the time that Joel's medical condition got worse. As I began to see the doctors and the hospital creating unnecessary complications for the family, that is when I decided that their story needed to be told. Another reason for making this documentary came as we researched Joel's condition and consequently discovered some interesting facts behind what can often affect a doctor's view of patients in critical condition.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I wanted to make a thought-provoking film that caused people to think hard about life and death issues — to value the sanctity of life and consider complicated medical questions biblically.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  It sparked a lot of questions for me about life and death that I had never considered before. Joel's family and my family are good friends, which allowed us to be very involved in their situation.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  This documentary has won the Jubilee award for "Best Biblical Family - 2007 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival." It is also nominated for "Best Oklahoma Documentary - 2008 Trail Dance Film Festival."
