Series: Word Biblical Commentary
The Word Biblical Commentary delivers the best in biblical scholarship, from the leading scholars of our day who share a commitment to Scripture as divine revelation. This series emphasizes a thorough analysis of textual, linguistic, structural, and theological evidence. The result is judicious and balanced insight into the meanings of the text in the framework of biblical theology. These widely acclaimed commentaries serve as exceptional resources for the professional theologian and instructor, the seminary or university student, the working minister, and everyone concerned with building theological understanding from a solid base of biblical scholarship.
RICHARD HOLTClovis, NMAge: 45-54Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5The best commentary on Job available today.April 22, 2011RICHARD HOLTClovis, NMAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5David Clines has done a commendable job with this volume. Scholars and specialists will doubtless be grateful for the extensive bibliographies, detailed notes and discussion of form, structure and setting. For the rest of us, the sections on "Comment" and "Explanation" are probably of greater interest. I must admit I spent most of my time reading these two sections - and they are very helpful and extremely well-written. I found the Introduction to be very interesting as well. Clines divides his "Introduction" into three sections he calls "Orientation to this Book," "Orientation to the Book of Job," and "Orientation to Books about Job." The second section covers most of the traditional introductory topics. But the other two sections are also very interesting. If there is any better commentary on Job, I haven't seen it.
