Dave5 Stars Out Of 5September 4, 2008DaveExcellent Bible, Japanese and English side by side. The Japanese has the furigana (Hiragana subtitles for Kanji) so its easy to read for beginners at Japanese (as long as you can read hiragana and katakana). Also great if you are ministering to Japanese people or are hosting Japanese students...you can easily reference English with side by side comparison in Japanese.text size was fine, the furigana may be hard for some people so have your reading glasses ready ;)you really don't want the text size any bigger since its a big Bible...makes it kinda hard to carry around everywhere (i had to leave it at home on my last trip to Japan, what with all the newer weight restrictions on airlines these days)

Tell us a little about yourself. Word of Life Press Ministries (WLPM) is Japan's largest Christian publisher, retailer and distributor. We are Evangelical, non- denominational, with 200 Japanese believers on staff from 50 denominations. We have 800 titles in print and publish 80-90 new titles a year. See our web site at www.wlpm.or.jp/ english for English descriptions of all or publications. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for any questions.
What was your motivation behind this project? One purpose was to provide a tool for Japanese who become Christian while in English speaking countries to better integrate into Japanese churches when they return to Japan. Those Evangelical churches most likely use this New Japanese Bible (NJB) translation. Evangelical books, magazines and curriculum quote the NJB(Shinkaiyaku).
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? A Bible that allows Japanese and English speakers to worship God together. Especially to introduce the Bible to Japanese living in English speaking countries by combining the most used English translation with the Japanese translation (the New Japanese Bible-Shinkaiyaku) used in most Japanese Evangelical churches.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Tne NJB translation was made to be trustworthy for teaching doctrine, so it is rather literal. So it may be a little difficult to understand for Japanese who know nothing about the Bible. For those people we recommend the Japanese Living Bible paraphrase which we also publish.
