This is not...repeat NOT a Christian film. Any pretention of morality is tacked on to try and make a mediocre script and acting performances "family-friendly". They even dubbed out some obvious profanity to notch it down from PG-13. If you want to see sex outside marriage, lying, stealing, new-age philosophy, and alchohol abuse, then Jake's Corner is for you!

I was glad to see the Dove rating but disappointed with the content of the movie. There were no fleshly scenes although they did allude to the fact that the waitress and the bartender were "shacking up". The language was discreet. However, 70-80% of the movie is filmed in the bar scene with beer cans and beer bottles consistently on the set. The uncle, Johnny Dunn an ex-football player, shows a lack of real manhood by not being able to tell his nephew that his parents were killed in the accident. There is no Christian emphasis to God or Jesus Christ or Church. Dont tell me that Johnny Dunn was a Christian man. I recommend this movie not be viewed without parental guidance under age 16. I rented Taking Chance at the same time. Not Christian, not Dove approved but showed more honor to God and respect to people than this movie did.

I saw this wonderful film at a film festival months ago and enjoyed it immensely. I bought it last week to share it with my family and I was quite pleased to see that the filmmakers had reedited it and made it even more of a faith based film.It is refreshing to see a film with mainstream Hollywood actors showcasing a message of God, his love in troubled times, and that he is always with us even if we don't realize it. While this film may not be outspoken enough for some of us, I believe that this is the kind of film that can spread God's word to those that aren't sure of their beliefs. The acting was first rate, by all involved. Trejo and Ladd did there usual amazing jobs, but Richard Tyson was in a rare form I have never seen. Tyson carried this role off with a depth and seriousness that you could read in every line in his face. I have always been on the fence when it comes to Tyson but he showed in this role that he has what it takes to be a serious lead actor and not just the crazy loud over the top character actor he usually plays. Kudos to the director for helping him find that talent that I thought was always inside him.At first I thought I didn't like the choice of the young boy who played the nephew. But then I realized it was that it wasn't that I didn't like him it was just that he was just a real kid...not some Hollywood kid actor acting like we think a kid should act. You can't help but fall in love with his rawness and honesty.Technically, a great film as well. Incredible cinematography, and the soundtrack and score are as good as a studio films. This by far the most professional independent film I have ever seen. Most of us will recognize five time grammy award winning singer "BJ Thomas" playing the role of "DOC" and his five songs create the cornerstone for a fantastic soundtrack.JAKE'S CORNER IS A MUST SEE FAMILY FILM!!!

Every honest Christian among us has struggled with his faith at one time or another and usually it happens in the face of tragedy. That's what happens in Jake's Corner to the main character Johnny Dunn, an ex-NFL star who's faced more than his share of loss. It takes the unexpected arrival of his nephew to shake up his world and show him that God has been there for him all along. This is an endearing film about loss, loss of faith and finding that faith again! It has a great supporting cast in Diane Ladd, BJ Thomas and Danny Trejo. It is a good film for families to watch together with children 10+.
