Product Description

Maybe you have relied on your own strength for far too long. You haven't been able to count on other people, so you just do your own thing. But God has bigger plans for you. God wants to use you to change the world. Rebecca Osaigbovo, conference speaker and author of Chosen Vessels, shows how black women can stand up to Satan's lies and face tough problems, not in your own strength but by finding God's strength in the midst of your weaknesses. She says this to women who want to be the keys to change in their homes, churches and communities: "If you want things to be different, then stop going your own way and follow God's lead. Lean not on your own understanding, and he'll make your paths straight."

Publisher's Description

It can hurt to hear someone tell it like it is. But sometimes you need to get the truth, straight up. And the truth is that it's not about you—it's about God.

Editorial Reviews

"This radical book is not a feel-good message but an in-your-face book that burns up any narcissism in your soul. [Rebecca Osaigbovo] motivates women to know the beauty and power of a life totally surrendered to Christ. When a strong black woman becomes a Christian, she has to lean on God. She has to see strength from a different perspective. . . . God is going to use the woman who delights in her weakness but walks in the strength of the Lord and the power of his might. This book will surely be the talk of the every urban beauty shop--especially for those women who find themselves looking in the mirror and getting a revelation that 'it's not about me--but up to me.' Osaigbovo inspires women to take the focus off themselves and become powerful partners with God."
"I finished reading It's Not About You--It's About God, and my heart and soul have been revived. I wholeheartedly endorse this wonderful book that will encourage Christians to believe God more and understand that the battle is not ours but the Lord's. When we fully realize this, we can stop trying to order our own steps and allow the Lord to do his work. Every Christian woman needs this book in her hands to read and implement these truths in her life."
"Through practical illustrations women will identify with the struggle of allowing God to operate on their lives. Although women may say 'Ouch' while Rebecca is used as an instrument in the hand of God to perform much-needed surgery on deep heart issues, they will also say 'Thank God' as she applies the balm of Gilead."

Author/Artist Review

Author: Rebecca Osaigbovo
Located in: Detroit, MI
Submitted: January 13, 2004

Tell us a little about yourself.  I was the third in a family of six children. My parents were missionaries in the state of Tennessee-with Cedine Bible Mission. I've been a Christian since I was five years old. I've always been a reader. I participated in Youth For Christ Bible quizzing as a teenager. I studied nursing at North Park College in Chicago, IL. A couple of years after college, I married Uwaifo Osaigbovo, who at the time was an engineering student from Nigeria. We've raised three children together and also have had a niece and a nephew in our home at different times. We've lived in Chicago, Nigeria and Detroit. I mostly worked in the field of substance abuse nursing when I worked as a nurse. I've been a communicator of the gospel full time since 1993. I have a passion to see women, and African American women in particular, rise to the height of their God-ordained destiny, which I believe is to be critical keys to change in our homes, communities, cities and eventually the world.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I have discovered that it is sometimes difficult to stay close to God. Based on the things God has taught me over the years,I wanted to share what I have discovered as the major hinderance to staying close to God-a wrong perspective on life.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope women will learn how to stay close to God. We have to be close, hearing his whispers, if we are to be the keys to change God wants us to be. Moving from a self-centered to a God-centered perspective is essential.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Andrew Murray, George Mueller, Watchman Nee, Joyce Meyers, Bob Sorge, Charles Stanley, Graham Cooke

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I long to see the day when people know we are christians by our genuine love for one another in spite of our many differences. Besides being raised in a multi-racial missions environment and being in a cross cultural marriage, I have had numerous opportunities to observe how God seeks to use our differences (racial, cultural, economic, denominational) to cultivate his agape love within us.
