Parental Note: This biography notes the historical speculation about a possible homosexual affair between Newton and another mathematician as well as his firm (though unorthodox) belief in God. Two metaphors mention Harry Potter.

"Outstanding. A multi-faceted portrait of a genius."School Library Journal, starred review
HeatherAge: 25-34Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5Better books out there on Isaac NewtonNovember 10, 2013HeatherAge: 25-34Gender: femaleI was disappointed in this book. It is a classic modern example of reading homosexual theory into people's lives in the past. Having an entire chapter in a children's book dedicated to exploring the theory of him having a homosexual relationship is an excellent way of hijacking what he did in the scientific realm.
The important thing for kids to come away with when reading about historical figures is WHAT they did to deserve a place in history not focusing on sensational speculation of his sexual behavior.
Our family LOVED reading the Isaac Newton book from the Sower Series also available here on CBD. It is excellent!

I picked this book up for my son who was in 5th or 6th grade at the time. I just thought it might help him to understand the world that Newton lived and worked in. I grabbed it from his nightstand late one night and read half the book before I forced myself to put it down and go to sleep. The next morning I took it to the gym and finished it on the bike. I was laughing out loud so much that it drew attention from the other regulars there. They gave me quite a look when they saw it was a biography of Isaac Newton.
Kathleen Krull is quite a writer. She brings you into the world of great scientists and helps you to see how it shaped who they became.
Oh, by the way... my son liked it too :)
