Dr. David A. deSilva attended Princeton University, Princeton Theological Seminary and earned his Ph.D. in Religion at Emory University. After a teaching stint at Candler School of Theology, Dr. deSilva became an associate professor of New Testament and Greek at Ashland Theological Seminary in Ohio in 1995. His most recent books include Honor, Patronage, Kinship, and Purity: Unlocking New Testament Culture (IVP); Perseverance in Gratitude: A Socio-rhetorical Commentary on the Epistle "to the Hebrews" (Eerdmans); New Testament Themes (Chalice); 20/30--Afterlife and Praying With John Wesley (Discipleship Resources). He has also written for Adult Bible Studies and has published extensively in academic journals and devotional publications. Emerson B. Powery, Professor of Biblical Studies at Messiah College, was a contributor to the Wesley Study Bible and co-authored Invitation to the New Testament (a short-term DISCIPLE Bible study). He wrote Jesus Reads Scripture (Brill, 2003) and was one of the lead editors forTrue to Our Native Land: An African American New Testament Commentary (Fortress, 2007).
