Instead of adding his own two cents, Brown, a highly respected Catholic scholar, enables you to understand the New Testament issues regarding Jesus' identity and the reason for debate. A thoughtful introduction to the realm of Christology for believers, this resource helps you discover the way Jesus was understood in his lifetime and throughout the history of the church. 226 pages, softcover from Paulist.

Fr. Brown was an outstanding Biblical scholar, known the world-over, but he often wrote books so that the average person could understand the message and deepen their own biblical understanding of the Sacred Bible.

Fr. Brown is very insightful on a difficult topic. It is is well illulstrated by scriptural use to a point that readers can trust. I think that this book is a must read for anyone who is beginning or one who needs a refreshing of the topic of Christology. Even the most learned can benefit from this book.

EXCELLENT.Raymond brown was a Catholic priest and one of the most respected New Testament scholars of the late 20th century. He would be described as a centrist or moderate. For example, he believed in the divinity of Christ as well as his resurrection, but he believed also that John the apostle did not write that Gospel. This book is an excellent intro to Christologic thinking; what can we gather about Jesus perception of himself from that which is written in the gospels? Does it seem from reading them that his disciples viewed him as divine? As usual Father Brown writes with a very detached scholarship, making this book an ideal introduction. This book will be helpful to fundamentalists and liberals alike.
