By Faith, Not by Sight - Scott Macintyre with Jennifer Schuchman
A moving story of hope, faith, persistence and the power of dreams.
A piano prodigy, a nineteen-year-old college grad, a Marshall scholar, and an American Idol finalist. This guy had it made. He could sing. He could ski blind. What couldn't he do? Even if you saw him in concert, you might not believe that Scott MacIntyre is blind, and you'd never guess that at nineteen, he faced a diagnosis that rocked his family and nearly took his life. So how did he do it? How did he overcome the odds? This is Scott's story, but he'd be the first to tell you that it's not really about him. This is the story of how God used a dedicated family, a selfless acquaintance, hardship, and a host of characters to give him life, faith, determination, and experiences most can only imagine.Peek behind the scenes to see how he learned to overcome his disability, how he made it in the music industry, how he found the love of his life, and how God taught him that in all things, we can truly achieve our dreams ‘By Faith, Not by Sight'.
What a perfect title for this incredible book! For me, no story is able to evoke stronger emotions better than a true account of someone's life. This one was no exception, and there were emotions on a number of levels: First, Scott and his family had a number of heart-wrenching obstacles to overcome - the mountains were steep, and the valleys dark and deep. Secondly, one of sisters also went through kidney failure and another sister donated a kidney, so I relived many of the emotions involved when a family goes through something like that. Thirdly, poured into these pages are the sacrifices Scott's parents made for their children - truly heartwarming. Finally, this family's never wavering faith in God is awe-inspiring and truly is the pinnacle of this memoir! Scott himself said it best after a disappointing experience, "God had already saved me from so much and blessed me with so much more. In my darkest moments, I had realized that with every obstacle comes an opportunity to trust him_ Although I couldn't see where I was going, I knew God was leading me and I was willing to follow. My reality has always been driven by faith and not by sight." If you want to walk a road of trials and triumphs and see how this family with God as their guide, takes it all in stride, this is a book you will not want to pass by!
