Author Bio

CAROLE CARGAL REEVES began working on In the Eyes of the Serpent twenty years ago, while teaching English literature in a Christian academy. “I was upset about the lack of exciting Christian novels at that time,” she says. Brought up on the Bible, Charles Williams, C.S. Lewis, and J.R.R. Tolkien, she has always been intrigued by the creative ways the epic battle between good and evil can be expressed in fiction. Look for Book Two, From the Ashes, soon.

Author/Artist Review

Author: Carole Cargal Reeves
Located in: Coral Springs, FL
Submitted: December 10, 2008

Tell us a little about yourself.  My husband and I live in Coral Springs, Florida. I have three grown children and sixteen grandchildren. Most of my working career has been in academia, teaching English, speech, and drama. After my children were grown, I returned to college and earned a PhD in English from Miami University of Ohio.

What was your motivation behind this project?  Many years ago while teaching the Genesis account of the Noachian Flood in World Literature, I became intrigued with the ancient world of that time. As I studied and researched the period, God gave me the story of a people caught up in the cosmic warfare between light and darkness being waged on earth and in the heavenlies.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  We live in a rapidly disintegrating society, not too unlike human kind before the Noachian Flood. I wanted readers to see the parallel of that period in history with the time in which we now live. As scripture says, the last days will be similar to "the days of Noah." I specifically wanted to depict the battle being waged against God's children by Satan and his minions.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  As I developed the plot and the characters, I found myself identifying with them in many ways as they struggled with bad choices, naivete, false assumptions, feelings of inadequacies to do God's work, false expectations, and Satan's endeavors to destroy all that God has made.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I hoped to capture a sense of the cosmic struggles between good and evil as depicted by C.S. Lewis and Charles Williams. I also wanted to demonstrate the redemption that is available to those who seek it. Two writers who have influenced my writing style are Ursula LeGuin and Francine Rivers.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  The Seekers of Light Series is scheduled to include four novels. The second in the series, From These Ashes, has just been released. The third book, The Amulet, takes place during the Fourth Crusade and is under construction. The last is set in Dayton, Ohio in the 21st century. Although the books cover a span of thousands of years, themes and characters tie the series together.
